New feature coming to Pixel 11 turns conversations into recommended steps of action

One of the best moments in Pixel history took place in October 2019 with the release of the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL. This model was unique in Pixel history as it included a version of facial recognition feature Face Unlock that was nearly an exact copy of Apple's Face ID. For the first and only time in Pixel history, there was no fingerprint sensor on the two versions.
Pixel 4 series had some new features that were "one and done"
The Pixel 4 and 4 XL also had a feature driven by the Soli radar chip that was placed in the phone's top bezel. It allowed the user to answer or dismiss a call, skip or repeat a song, snooze an alarm, dismiss a timer, and pause or resume audio playback. It also lowered the ringtone or alarm volume when it sensed a hand heading toward the device.
The Pixel 4 series did so poorly that this version of Face Unlock never returned and never again would a Pixel model be released without a fingerprint sensor. In fact, the Pixel 4 line so thoroughly broke Google's expectations that the Pixel 5 ended up as a mid-range phone. It was almost as though Google knew that the Pixel needed to take a step back before it embarked in a new direction with the Pixel 6 series.
The 2019 Pixel series debuted a red-hot Pixel-exclusive app
The Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL also debuted a new app that has become a hit. It is unique and has become synonymous with the Pixel brand of smartphones and is called "Recorder." This app allows Pixel users to record meetings, lessons, musical ideas and performances, interviews, ambient sounds and more. Audio is processed on-device allowing a compatible Pixel phone to convert spoken words into text without being online.
Speakers are automatically named Speaker 1, Speaker 2, etc. Users can go back and give each speaker his or her real name. Each speaker is given a color and Gemini will provide the user with a bulleted summary of the recording. After searching your library for certain words or phrases, tapping on a search result takes you right to the exact timestamp in the recording.
A new app is coming to the Pixel 11 series
As great as Recorder has been, Google has a new feature for Pixel users that is coming with the Pixel 11 series. Named "Conversation Capture," Android Authority discovered some strings of code that say, "Get summaries, transcriptions, and suggested actions after important conversations like appointments, meetings, and more."
Unlike Recorder, the new app operates in the background, eliminating the need to press the Record button. It listens for action items, key insights and places them in the user's apps and workflow. For example, if it records someone saying "Let's meet for lunch at Tatte next Tuesday at 12:30 to go over the story draft," an entry for the lunch will be added to Google Calendar.

It's all very intriguing to be sure and with the Magic Cue feature enabled, your recordings can be shared wth Gemini to get some AI-powered suggestions about possible actions you can take. It also seems that Conversation Capture will have its own standalone app.
Data will be stored on-device and encrypted in the cloud
Once a conversation you've captured with the new feature has been processed and summarized by your Pixel, a notification will be sent. While Recorder gves you an audio file or written transcript, Conversation Capture takes the conversation and turns it into calendar entres and system actions.
The strings also revealed that data saved by the app will be stored on-device and in the cloud although this data will be end-to-end encrypted. You should also keep in mind that unless you give permission, no data will be shared with Google.
Conversation Capture will debut with the release of the Pixel 11 series. It is very possible that we will see Google tout this feature on August 12 at the Made by Google event. Last year's event was hosted by Jimmy Fallon and was widely panned. We have no dea who s hosting this year's event, but it won't be Fallon. We are sure to see Rick Osterloh, the long-time Google SVP of Platforms and Devices, handle the co-hosting duties.
