Fresh Motorola Edge 70 Max leak reveals impressive screen size and battery capacity

The leaked 7,100mAh battery capacity in particular should boost your excitement over Motorola's next big Android high-ender.

After not making much of an effort to gain ground in the high-end smartphone space in 2025, Motorola is seemingly preparing to unveil its second Galaxy S26 Ultra rival of 2026 already. Leaked for the first time just a little over two weeks ago, the Edge 70 Max is officially "coming soon" to India... and unfortunately, no other markets for the time being.

While the handset's manufacturer continues to keep things rather vague and generic in its buzz-building campaign in the world's most populous nation, one of the most trustworthy mobile tech leakers in the business has some very juicy and some very specific new information to share with his Bluesky followers.

These are some of the key Motorola Edge 70 Max selling points

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor;
  • 6.82-inch Extreme AMOLED display;
  • 7,100mAh battery.

Because we've already seen the unreleased Android flagship pictured in a "Glacier Blue" colorway, and the Edge 70 Max name has been confirmed by none other than Motorola, those three specs are obviously the most interesting things revealed by Roland Quandt today.

Of the three, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 SoC was also mentioned before, but the 7,100mAh battery was not, so let's talk about it for a few seconds. Although it's no longer unusual to see even budget-friendly mid-rangers from brands like OnePlus in markets like India pack 7,000mAh+ and even 8,000mAh+ cells, this is definitely a huge number compared to the 5,200mAh ticker of the aforementioned Motorola Signature or the 6,500mAh battery inside the recently released Edge 70 Pro Plus.

What does Motorola need to do to become a force in the high-end space?

I can only imagine the battery endurance promises of the Edge 70 Max, especially in combination with the same reasonably powerful but also frugal Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset found under the Signature's hood. Of course, the 6.82-inch "Extreme" AMOLED screen does sound like a major energy drainer, but all in all, I still expect this bad boy to shine as far as battery life (and display quality, and raw power) are concerned.

Is this a serious Galaxy S26 Ultra alternative?

Yes... and no. If you're a hardcore Motorola fan, it could definitely be a great high-end option, especially if it's priced competitively enough. But you have to remember that the "normal" Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor is no match for the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 powering Samsung's Galaxy S26 family, and something tells me Motorola has no answer to the S26 Ultra's built-in Privacy Display functionality either.

Stylus support, of course, is a possibility here after the Moto Pen Ultra debuted earlier this year alongside the Motorola Signature and Razr Fold, while the camera system on the back of the Edge 70 Max is also unlikely to go up against the S26 Ultra's beastly 200 + 10 + 50 + 50MP quad snapper setup.

For the time being, that's just an assumption based in large part on, well, common sense, the Signature's good but not great triple 50MP camera setup, and the primary 50MP Sony LYTIA 710 sensor already revealed to reside on the Edge 70 Max's rear.

Pricing and availability will make or break this device

... and unfortunately, that's all kept under wraps for now. Although the phone's official teasers so far have exclusively been focused on India, I continue to hope a release will take place in select European markets and perhaps even North America as well in the relatively near future.

As far as pricing goes, the Rs. 57,499 ($602) and up Motorola Signature makes me hopeful that the Edge 70 Max will also be kept under the equivalent of $700 in India, thus providing a much more affordable alternative to the Galaxy S26 Ultra and fast-approaching iPhone 18 Pro duo for more than Motorola's devoted fans with such premium capabilities as magnetic wireless charging support and a 7,100mAh battery with presumably blazing fast charging technology.
