If there’s one certain thing about the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, it would be that they’ll come in new colors, one of which could be called Dark Cherry. However, we still don’t know for sure how that color may look, but a newly leaked image may have given us a clue about it.
Leaked SIM tray photo shows the Dark Cherry iPhone 18 Pro color
New photo of what’s allegedly an iPhone 18 Pro SIM tray has been shared (source in Chinese) by prolific Weibo leaker Instant Digital. The photo is supposedly showing the tray from a Dark Cherry version of the device, though the image quality is quite low.
The image is quite different from the bright color seen in some of the earlier leaks. The SIM tray here is much darker, and it appears more like a deep burgundy or a nearly black purple than a cherry color.
What would make you upgrade to the iPhone 18 Pro?

Apple is almost certainly going to launch the iPhone 18 Pro in light blue and silver gray versions, which would leave the Dark Cherry version as the closest alternative to a black model. Answering a user asking about a black version, Instant Digital said there won’t be such a model, reiterating the three-color rumors.
However, at least two other leaks have suggested that Apple is developing a dark gray version, though it’s not clear whether it will be launched. We’ve seen renders and the suggested Pantone colors for the four finishes, as well as leaked dummies for all the colors.

Despite developing the dark gray version, Apple is likely not going to launch it, which would be the second time in a row we don’t get a black iPhone Pro model. However, if the black-ish version launches, many people will be happy, including at least one person who shared on Reddit that they’d upgrade from a blue iPhone 17 Pro.
Coming soon

Regardless of the colors, the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to launch in early September, alongside the first iPhone Ultra. Apple’s first foldable iPhone is expected to come in no more than two colors.
Meanwhile, Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Z Flip 8 in four colors each. Taking from Apple’s book, the company may also skip a dark gray or black version of its new foldable models.
Make it black, Apple
As much as I’m a fan of bright smartphone colors, I don’t really understand why Apple doesn’t just release the default black and white versions of all its phones. I may not like them, but it appears that enough people prefer playing it safe, and they should be able to.
