The only major drawback is that both of these book-style foldables are close to the $2,000 threshold (the Ultra crosses it shamelessly). So, what's a man gotta do if he wants to buy the latest Samsung foldable?
Well, going for the flip member of the family—the Galaxy Z Flip 8—is always an option. After all, it costs only $1,200 and you're still in the foldable game. You still get to flex that fancy hinge.
Yup, not even one in ten would go for the Flip model.
The wider-than-taller Galaxy Z Fold 8 gets all the love and that's hardly a surprise. This bad boy got a million pre-orders just from users in its home country. It's bound to become a hit!

It looks like its predecessor (only marginally thinner and lighter), it's got the same battery and same cameras—just a bit more advanced chipset, but the difference isn't night and day.
In short, if you've found a solid Galaxy Z Flip 7 deal, you're probably better off saving some of that hard-earned cash and going with last year's model. That is also why the Z Flip 8 hype isn't happening.
An end to the Z Flip line?
In the few months before the Z Flip 8's unveiling, we got several rather disturbing rumors. Samsung's clamshell foldable lineup could reportedly end with the Galaxy Z Flip 8, as the company is said to be shifting its focus toward larger book-style foldables.
This grim report had it that Samsung sees limited room for meaningful improvements to the Flip design while production costs continue to rise. Another factor is the growing demand for larger foldables, with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the limited-edition Galaxy Z TriFold reportedly performing well. The pre-order numbers for the Z Fold 8 just prove that, by the way.

Recently, however, another report claimed that the Galaxy Z Flip 9 is happening in 2027 after all. Giving up on the clamshell wouldn't be the smartest move by Samsung.
The safest path to a Galaxy Z Flip 9 involves Apple, though—if the Cupertino giant promises a clamshell for 2027, Samsung would have no choice but to continue the Flip legacy.
