Great news about the Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z TriFold series has just emerged

Samsung is working hard to ensure that next year's foldable flagship lineup is full to the brim with quality choices.

The Galaxy Z Flip 9 and the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 have been the subjects of numerous rumors as of late, but a new report has put to rest the most troubling leaks. Samsung, as it turns out, is indeed working on both phones and plans to follow a “4+4” strategy for 2027.

This “4+4” plan includes the Galaxy S27 phones as well as the foldable flagships that will succeed the Galaxy Z Flip 8, the Galaxy Z Fold 8, and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra which have just launched this month.

Galaxy Z Flip 9, it’s in the works!

According to a report (translated source) from perhaps one of the most credible sources on the planet, Samsung is working on the Galaxy Z Flip 9 for next year. This is surprising news as a lot of previous leaks were alleging that there is a high chance of the Flip lineup being canceled after the Galaxy Z Flip 8.

Unlike previous years, plans for the next generation of the Flip series have not been sent to the supply chain from Samsung now that the Flip 8 has been finalized and announced. This has led to speculation that the company is thinking of abandoning the entire lineup, with some believing it to be the case because Samsung feels like there’s not much more that it can add.

Personally, I don’t believe that’s the case. The Galaxy Z Flip phones can improve in a myriad of ways, and perhaps Samsung feels the same if it’s working on a Flip 9.

Galaxy Z TriFold 2 coming next summer

A successor to Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold 2 is also being worked on. Unlike what previous rumors have claimed, however, the TriFold 2 will apparently not be released by the end of this year or early next year.

Instead, Samsung apparently wants to announce the TriFold 2 alongside the Flip 9, Fold 9, and Fold 9 Ultra. This is the company’s “4+4” strategy for next year. First, Samsung will kick off the year with the following phones:

And then, during the summer months, four new foldable flagships will apparently be unveiled:

  • Galaxy Z Flip 9
  • Galaxy Z Fold 9
  • Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra
  • Galaxy Z TriFold 2

From the very few reports about the TriFold 2, it seems like the phone will be a much more refined successor. The three displays of the TriFold 2 will be much more similar this time around and the two creases across the completely unfolded display will be less visible as well.

This puts a wrench in the rolling phone leaks

There was a claim floating around the internet that Samsung has been working on a rolling phone that it plans to announce alongside the Galaxy S27 series next year.

Samsung is very likely working on such a phone, but this report almost confirms that the rollable smartphone will most likely not be among the list of Galaxy phones coming out in 2027. If such a phone was nearing launch, we’d likely have a lot of leaked renders, images, and details by now.

It’s the age of the foldable

As I’ve said before, with the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, foldable smartphones have peaked. Now, if you have the budget, you should really be considering foldables alongside traditional phones for your next purchase.

Next year, this statement will ring even truer, in my opinion. From clamshell foldables to passport-size foldables, book-style foldables, and tri-folding behemoths, the foldable industry will be swimming with consumer choice.

And this is before I even mention the fact that, by then, Apple’s foldable iPhone Ultra will be a reality too.
