The rumored iPhone 18 Pro colors are certainly going to disappoint some people

Rumors about the iPhone 18 Pro colors have been all over the place, but with its September 9 premiere coming closer, we may have much more clarity about Apple’s plans in that regard. A new rumor claims that the company will ditch all the iPhone 17 Pro shades, including the widely successful Cosmic Orange one, and replace them with completely new colors.

iPhone 18 Pro may come in completely new colors

Apple may retire all three colors it used on the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. According to a new post (source in Chinese) from Weibo leaker Fixed Focus Digital, the company will introduce the following three colors for its new Pro phones:

  • Dark Cherry/Burgundy
  • Sky Blue
  • Black

Probably the most exciting one, at least for some, is the dark red shade, which will replace the Cosmic Orange as the signature color of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Compensating the switch from a bright to a dark signature shade, the Sky Blue color is expected to be similar to the one seen on the iPhone Air and MacBook Air.

Is the silver iPhone 18 Pro cancelled?

Rumors about the third color of the iPhone 18 Pro have been the most mixed, with some sources saying it’ll come in Silver, while others claim a black iPhone Pro would make a comeback. Fixed Focus Digital says the silver version will “most likely” not be available.

The leaker reported the iPhone 18 Pro is already in full-scale production, and they haven’t seen a silver version in the production lines. However, this means last year’s complaints about the lack of a black model will remain in the past.

While the Cosmic Orange version of the 17 Pro reportedly boosted Apple’s sales in China, many users on Reddit were baffled by the lack of a black version, saying that was their favorite color. The company’s decision was met with numerous jokes that “orange is the new black,” but many people thought it was a temporary thing. Apparently, they were right.

Compared to the four colors of the Pixel 11 Pro and six versions of the Galaxy S26 Ultra, Apple’s selection of only three colors certainly feels limited. While Samsung’s options are all relatively muted, Google’s selection has excellent shades like the reddish Canyon and the deep green Olive.

Both also include very dark grey or black versions, as well as very light or white options, so it would make sense for Apple to just launch four colors.

Will the iPhone 18 Pro fix the fading colors issue?

The iPhone 18 Pro may not fix what turned into one of the most serious issues with its predecessor. Shortly after launch, owners of the 17 Pro noticed their phones were changing colors and turning from orange to various shades of pink.

While this affected a small number of devices, later reports showed the 17 Pro’s color fading due to the coating of the phone wearing off. Rumor has it the 18 Pro will use the same aluminum chassis as last year, so these problems may remain on the new models.

What could solve at least the problem with the changing colors is if Apple chooses a different coating process for the new phone. Still, older aluminum models, such as the iPhone 6S, also saw their coating wearing off with time, so this particular issue may not be easily solvable.

Why can’t we have more colors?

I’m the type of person that always buys the “new” color, which is why I never owned a Space Gray or Silver iPhone. However, I still think people should have more choices, and I hope Apple goes back to offering more than three colors. Until then, I’ll fully enjoy the Dark Cherry version.
