Created all the way back in 2005, Amazon Prime exceeded 100 million US members earlier this year, surging from a subscriber base of "only" 54 million people in 2016. While there are many benefits to signing up for this incredibly popular program, from unlimited two-day shipping to same-day and 2-hour delivery on millions of items in select areas, the 2015 inauguration of Prime Day has undoubtedly played a crucial role in driving those numbers up.

Essentially envisioned as an Amazon Prime-exclusive Black Friday in July type of event, the festival of deals is at its fifth edition this year, expanding for the first time to a full 48 hours and covering more digital ground than ever, from the US to the UK, Spain, Singapore, Netherlands, Mexico, Luxembourg, Japan, Italy, India, Germany, France, China, Canada, Belgium, Austria, Australia, and the United Arab Emirates

Save the dates, set your (Alexa-powered) alarm clocks, and get ready to shop

Stateside, Prime Day 2019 is scheduled to kick off at midnight PT on Monday, July 15, running through the end of Tuesday and including more than one million, yes, a million deals around the world. To make sure you won't miss anything big or waste precious time trying to figure out how you can claim these special offers on July 15 and 16, you should first and foremost check the validity of your Amazon Prime membership.

If you don't have one, you can start a 30-day free trial right now and cancel the subscription before ever being billed. If you want to stick with it, you can pay $12.99 a month or $119 a year and receive a long list of perks and benefits, including Prime Video access, unlimited music streaming, unlimited photo storage, unlimited reading, and the aforementioned shipping freebies.

Next, you should probably download the free Amazon app to preview and shop deals directly on your phone, set an Alexa reminder for the beginning of the festivities, and tap "Watch this deal" on items you're interested in to get alerts when (and if) they're discounted.

Certain deals are already underway

Perhaps the most enticing early promotion is a massive $140 discount on the popular unlocked LG Stylo 4 that Prime members can claim without having to wait several more days. Unfortunately, that irresistible second-gen Echo bargain we told you about just a couple of days ago is no longer available, but a return in style in time for Prime Day is definitely possible.

Without further ado, here's a list of cool savings that require no waiting on your part, which we'll try to keep updated in the next few days:
  • DOSS Bluetooth speakers at up to 35 percent off (valid today only)
  • Two free months of HBO with Fire TV Stick purchase
  • Free third-gen Echo Dot with Ring Video Doorbell Pro
  • Fire TV Recast - $100 off
  • Echo Input - $20 off

What exactly can we expect here?

In short, a lot. While many of the million+ global deals in Amazon's pipeline will probably cover categories like clothing, jewelry, books, movies, food, beauty, toys, and sports, which aren't exactly our areas of interest here at PhoneArena, we absolutely expect to see plenty of large discounts offered for popular smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, smart home devices, and other interesting gadgets.

You should keep an eye out for killer deals on Amazon's own Fire and Echo devices in particular, as well as Alexa-enriched headphones from various third-party brands. Another thing we're excited about are exclusive Prime Day 2019 launches of products like the Kygo Life A9/600 and Kygo Life E7/900 headphones, Mophie Juice Pack Air for Apple, Jabra Elite 85h wireless noise-canceling headphones (available today), and many other special colors of existing devices and accessories.

Stay tuned for continuous updates of this article as the truly exciting deals start to pour in and don't forget to regularly check eBay and Target's own Black Friday in July type of extensive sales events.
