Latest Android update for some BlackBerry Priv models can be found in the Beta Zone

If you're an owner of the AT&T branded BlackBerry Priv, or the version of the Android powered slider meant for Canadian or Asian Pacific markets, you need to read this story. AT&T has a beta version of an update waiting for you in the BlackBerry Beta Zone. To make sure that the update is the right one, it should be labeled AAG202 - AT&T / AAG191 - Canadian and AsiaPac after you install it on your device. The security patch level reads September 6th, which is when the next Android security patch is set to be unveiled

The only thing that we can say for sure about the update is that it will feature the latest security patch. BlackBerry usually tosses in its own bug fixes and changes, but because the only version of the update that is already out is the one in the Beta Zone, no changelist has been released. Once Google officially releases the update, a changelist will appear although it won't include the changes that BlackBerry adds.

There is no version of the update in the Beta Zone for the unlocked Priv sold from ShopBlackBerry.com and Amazon. There is also no beta for versions of the Priv branded by T-Mobile and Verizon. Also not receiving one are Priv models sold in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Those models should still receive the update when it rolls out through regular channels starting on September 6th.

You won't be able to update it at all without the AT&T sim, unless you update it via the autoloaders on BlackBerry's support page on their website. But updating by autoloaders will wipe the phone. You'll have to choose the AT&T version of the autoloader.

Yea I'll just pop in my sim from time to time to make sure she's up to date.... What are your thoughts on the Dtek as a backup phone?

I think it will make an excellent back up phone. It has decent specs for a mid-ranger (battery could bigger for my tastes, though). And it will definitely receive Nougat.

BlacKBerry PRIV models from shop.blackberry already have this update (or a variation of it). Shop.blackberry versions are ahead of carrier versions. T-Mobile variants also already have this update from their version of the beta update. AT&T is late to the game (as usual), and Verizon is worse than AT&T.

The only thing AT&T may be ahead on (concerning this update) is the security patch, but I'll have to double check that.

That's what I would've thought. After reading the first line of the third paragraph I was scratching my head thinking how AT&T beat everyone to it. Thanks for the clarification MG.

No problem. And just to clarify, shop.blackberry and amazon.com PRIV's and DTEK50's already have the September security patch. They received it with the update to Quadrooter. So did some carrier versions of both devices.

So this is another security update and not an update to Nougat? I think the title needs to be more clear. I don't see Nougat coming for the Priv right now with how long it took marshmallow to release for it.

It's more than a security update. It's an update for those in the beta program that brings it inline with the shop.blackberry models. BlackBerry released Marshmallow to the PRIV in April, which wasn't too long after Marshmallow's initial release. BlackBerry has to add their security to the entire OS, right down to the core, so it takes a little more time to release it. The security is worth it, as far as I'm concerned. I have no doubt that the PRIV will receive Nougat.
