Google teases new Nexus Live Cases from artist Jeff Koons

Nexus smartphones offer their users plenty of benefits: besides giving shoppers some pretty high-end hardware at reasonable prices, you've also got the huge advantage of having access to the latest Android releases before anyone else on the block. That was already a pretty potent one-two punch, but last year Google started kicking things up a notch, sweetening its Nexus appeal with some interesting case designs. This year Google took that even further with some totally custom Live Cases for Nexus phones. Now it looks like the next chapter in the Live Cases story is nearly upon us, as Google prepares to introduce a “limited-edition piece” by noted artist Jeff Koons.

You may know Koons best from his balloon-animal art (one piece of which set records in 2013 when selling for $58.4 million), but now he's turning his design talents to the smartphone world.

Right now, all we know is that Google has a landing page up for a Jeff Koons Live Case, with the note that this Nexus exclusive is set to become available tomorrow, on May 10.

Are we talking about multiple designs, or maybe just one signature look? And what can we expect from pricing? Those old Skrillex Live Cases went for $40, while current custom Live Cases will run you $35 – we'd guess the Koons cases will come in a little on the higher side of things, but that's only speculation for the moment.

Those are just the start of our questions about this collaboration. Will additional Live Case designs arrive later this year from other noteworthy artists? Our answers could be just a few short hours away, so check back with us tomorrow for full details on Google's announcement.
