Firmware updates for the Sony Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z4 Tablet could be related to overheating issue

A few days ago, we told you that firmware updates were certified for both the Sony Xperia Z3+ and the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet. Today, both devices started receiving the new files. Sony Mobile is pushing out firmware version 28.0.A.7.24 for the handset (E6553). That update is being disseminated to units located in Hong Kong and Taiwan where the phone has already been released. Sony also is sending out the update to areas where the phone will launch sometime in the next few weeks such as India, Singapore, Netherlands, Russia, Vietnam and Turkey. In the Ukraine, the dual SIM version of the phone (E6533) is receiving the same update.

In the U.K. only, the phone is receiving a pair of firmware updates (28.0.A.7.24 and 28.0.A.7.27) even though the Xperia Z3+ has not yet been released in the region. While Sony did not publish a changelist for either firmware version, it did say the other day that it was going to send out an update to help the Xperia Z3+ deal with the overheating issues that have plagued it. The unit is powered by the Snapdragon 810 SoC, which is known to have problems with thermal regulation.

Besides the phone, the Xperia Z4 Tablet (SGP771) is also receiving firmware version 28.0.A.7.24 in both Hong Kong and Taiwan. The slate also features the Snapdragon 810 chipset under the hood, which keeps alive the notion that the firmware update is being sent out in order to help keep the affected devices from becoming too hot to handle.

Thanks for the tip!

The SD810 has been a total failure for Qualcomm and OEMs that have employed it. It is really sad that These OEMs are faced with having to, Excuse the pun, take the heat for Qualcomm's rush to market of a not ready for prime time 64 bit chip. Some sort of restitution should be made to their customers who paid for the latest and greatest tech and got a lemon.

This update actually doesn't increase throttling, it manages the cores much better and CPU scores are much more consistent on back to back benchmark runs. My antutu score was dropping quite a bit on the previous firmware after each run. After this update, the score doesn't drop more than 10% even after 5 consecutive runs.

Are you an M9 user with the newest 1.40 update ? Coz me too have the same exact feeling and scores In fact, i am having a 56k in AnTuTu whenever i run it, and 1000+ in single core GeekBench test after 5 consecutive runs also. Temperatures never cross the 39-40℃ also, which already takes a long long time to crank up there. So it is not only blindly throttling the device, but a better core management too :)

I was talking about the Z3+. But looks like HTC already did this for the m9 :). Cool!

Check out this article from anandtechhttp://anandtech.com/show/9388/comparing-snapdragon-810-v2-and-v21 Looks like Qualcomm really did manage to improve their SD810.

That's a very good article - typical anandtech :). So SD810 v2.1 brings 33% increase in bandwidth when we're hitting the main memory! That's a lot - should help apps run faster.

So you are the irritating mostafa wael I keep reading on XDA. Nice, so you are even going to infest the PA with your nonsense about how Exynos is heating up and spreading all nonsense. Good thing is that you keep all most of nonsense with your mate vegetalab and other Beirut guys. I get a good laugh looking at your nonsense that you type everyday, a very good comic relief for me. Let me inform you guys, this guy Mostafa Wael thinks that Exynos actually overheats and 810 is 'cooler'. And they will even tell you that 1.40 update made the M9 camera better than S6 and G4. There are a few guys who are the biggest HTC fanatics (not fans, but fanatics). They think everyone copies from HTC. I don't know what these guys have for breakfast, but that must be some nasty stuff.

First, i am not just blindly bashing exynos-equipping galaxy S6, coz AndroidPIT is having their S6's back peeling off, possibly due to trapped heat. And i have seen a couple of threads over XDA around the overheating topic too. Secondly, i am not saying that the S6 is a total failure. I credit them for putting the CPU far away from the battery. And no, the M9 is still behind the G4 ofcourse in terms of camera. All what i say is that the M9 is on par now with the S6, G4 in daylight with minor differences that some may consider as better or worse, depending on the taste ;) I am also mad about the current situation of S810 as it gives less battery life and a little bit more to load apps than the S801 sadly. I picked the M9 above the S6 coz of the software update care. At least i have no RAM Management issues or missing toggles, and if i have them, i know that the next update will fix them,....sooner than i think. Anyways, i am sorry if i sound a bit irritating to you, there must have been a bit of misunderstating and i hope it is cleared out soon :)

Why give $hit about what crap samsung fanboy trolls rd_nest thinks? If you ever read his previous comment you will realize that he is a hyper samsung fanboy and he trolls and bitch about practically every other phones besides Samsung. Exynos is a really great processor but it also has overheating problems but the overheating issues of exynos processor got buried in the SD810 overheating news. And No samsung fans here will admit that their phones get extremely hot (read toasty) during intensive work.

I just wanted to say to him that this is based on facts AndroidPit -->https://www.androidpit.com/samsung-galaxy-s6-problems-and-how-to-fix-them An overheating thread of the S6 --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s6-edge/help/elses-phone-heat-easily-t3074907 And there are more of them xD Plus there are already a lot of people bashing #Exynos on twitter also.. So it is not blind bashing, it is a fact that octa-core sucks even on the 14 nm manufacturing process. Plus it was mentioned somewhere in this thread here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2411840&page=2777) that the Galaxy S6 CPU can reach to 66℃ only if you open the camera app and take a pic, while the M9's CPU only reach 59℃ after a 30-Minute gaming session of locked smoothness on mortal combat. So you tell rd_nest which is the 'hot' chip.

I find this from androidpolice comment sectionhttp://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2e4f5vk&s=8 LOL, Exynos on S6 edge reach 74℃/164°F. Here is another example about S6E overheatinghttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7d81depDTbE

My question is, why there is no one in the press saying anything on overheating issues of the exynos 7420 on the S6 and the S6 edge ?

Because it is a totally better SoC with better CPU management system and better hardware implementation. Also Mali T760 isn't as hot as Adreno 430.

Defnitely not. But that XDA thread is filled with bunch of clowns who are priceless for my daily dose of laughter. Here are the general sentiment in that thread, really hilarious: 1. M9 is cooler than S6. (Yeah, and Hitler was a saint) 2. M9 has better camera than S6 (who says something else is employed by Samsung) 3. Press and specially Anandtech was paid by Samsung to write bad about HTC. 4. Press loves to bash HTC, as if HTC is something special to think about. [They don't come under even top 10 phone manufacturer, why on earth should press give 2 sh!t about HTC..] 5. Anandtech, GSMArena, PhoneArena and many more websites have done reviews and found that S6 has better batterylife. But they will tell you that M9 is better. This is a wonderful gang of HTC fanatics who will make you laugh anytime. A 'free' advise for you, whether you take it or not is upto you - I assume you're still a teenager. Don't overuse smilies, emoticons after every sentence. That's look weird and childish..

You should clarify that the BATTERY temp isn't going above 40°C. I'm pretty sure your CPU went up to 90 degrees Celsius during high load.
