Asus cancels Zenfone 3 Deluxe's launch in Canada, standard model not coming to the US

Although Asus previously announced the Zenfone 3 Deluxe smartphone will be launched in Canada early this month, it looks like the Taiwanese company had a change of heart.

Canadian customers waiting for the Zenfone 3 Deluxe to arrive in their country should search for alternatives, as this particular model won't be coming anymore. Asus confirmed that the Zenfone 3 Deluxe launch in Canada has been canceled, but it did not offer any details on the reasons behind the decision.

In the same piece of news, Asus stated that while customers in the United States will be able to purchase the Zenfone 3 Deluxe, they will be missing out on the standard model. Basically, Canadian can get the Zenfone 3, whereas Americans are limited to the Deluxe version.

Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe comes with improved specs over the standard model, such as the large 5.7-inch display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution, a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

The Zenfone 3 Deluxe should have been priced to sell for $699 CAD in Canada, while in the US the smartphone costs around $500 outright. So, there you have it folks, even if the phone is still listed at various Canadian retailer, there's little chance that it will hit the shelves.

It's kind of baffling. It's not like the Zenfone 3 Deluxe was going through carriers here. It was going D2C through storefronts like Staples and Newegg. Tis a shame.

The Zenfone 3 is using a SD 625 with only 3 GB of ram. Whereas the Zenfone 3 deluxe comes in two flavours. A SD 820 with 4 GB of ram, and a SD 821 with 6 GB of ram. Storage sizes range from 64 GB to 256 GB. So the price and specs of the deluxe version vary a lot.

The Zenfone 3 is a fine little mid-ranger, but it would have been nice to have another decent phablet option here in Canada. Even if they only stocked one variation of the Deluxe.

Zenphone 3 lines of models are a flop and they can blame it on pricing. People expect them to have competitive prices but Asus change it's strategy and it back fire big time.

Wish the deluxe had a QHD screen.
