Apple's iPhone plans for 2027 are radical | Image by Fpt.
Apple, and the iPhone in particular, is often criticized as an unoriginal company and product. Something that is often lagging behind its competitors and doesn’t really offer anything novel for the price point.
Yet, after a very strong 2026, I think that 2027 will be the year of the iPhone. A year when Apple uncontestedly reigns supreme over Samsung, Google, and other major phone manufacturers. Allow me to explain.
The 20th anniversary of the iPhone

Next year is the 20th anniversary of the iPhone, and Apple has grand plans.
For starters, the company is skipping the iPhone 19 series and jumping straight to the iPhone 20. Apple has been hard at work and, if everything goes according to plan, it will unveil the iPhone 20 Pro next launch cycle.
An iPhone that has no bezels, no borders, and no cutouts across the display at all. No Dynamic Island and no holes for the front camera either. Nothing.
This is, in my opinion, going to be the most important smartphone release in a very long time. Even if the Galaxy S27 Ultra finally ditches the 5,000 mAh battery, that might not be enough to surpass a phone with such a flawless display. I know which one I prefer, and it’s not the Galaxy.
I can only hope that the iPhone 20 Pro completely revolutionizes the industry and other phone manufacturers follow suit en masse. As I’ve mentioned several times in the past, I really don’t like notches and punch holes on smartphone displays.

The iPhone Ultra 2, a more polished foldable
I still think that it's a bad idea to get the first-generation foldable iPhone Ultra. | Image by Talks Tech Newz
This year’s big Apple release is, of course, the foldable iPhone Ultra. A different form factor to traditional foldable smartphones and the first time that iOS will be used in this way. There are bound to be some glitches, bugs, and oversights.
By next year, Apple will have ironed out most of the kinks, and the iPhone Ultra 2 will be an excellent phone for any Apple fans wanting to get into foldables. Who knows, Apple might even release a different model alongside it with a more traditional layout.
All I can say is that next year’s Galaxy Z Fold and Pixel Pro Fold phones will have some tough competition.
The base iPhone 18

For the first quarter of this year, the base model of the iPhone 17 lineup remained the best selling phone in the world. A higher starting storage option, excellent cameras, long-lasting battery life, and the ProMotion display — Apple’s 120 Hz screens — made it a fantastic bang-for-your-buck device.
There is a very good chance that the base iPhone 18, which will come out early next year following Apple’s new release schedule, will continue to sell incredibly well. On the other hand, disappointing news is coming in about the base Galaxy S27 — the same cameras yet again — so there might not be much excitement for Samsung’s standard models.
A better iPhone Air
The idea behind the iPhone Air is solid, it's just the execution that was poorly handled. | Image by PhoneArena
I still believe that Apple wants to make the iPhone Air the go-to iPhone for most users, similar to the MacBook Air. Though the first model that came out last year has received mixed reviews, reports indicate that Apple is trying to rectify that.
The iPhone Air 2, launching alongside the base iPhone 18 and the iPhone 18e, will apparently come with a larger battery. Perhaps more importantly for some potential customers, the phone will also have two cameras instead of one, making it a much better option for the price tag.
Its direct competitor, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, was unfortunately discontinued shortly after launch due to poor sales, so Apple has almost no competition in this category in the U.S.
Some fascinating Apple products

Lastly, Apple is looking to release some fascinating new products next year.
A smart home hub powered by the new Siri, for example. Or AirPods with built-in cameras as an alternative to smart glasses. Speaking of which, the Apple smart glasses will likely come out just before 2027 ends.
All of these new additions to the Apple ecosystem might push some people to give the company’s offerings a try, possibly resulting in them buying an iPhone to get the complete experience.
Which of these Apple products will have your attention next year?
I don’t know about you, but I think that 2027 might just be one of Apple’s strongest years ever for the iPhone, and I haven’t even mentioned the upcoming touchscreen-enabled MacBook models.
