Images from Windows 10 for Phones leak, including Settings page
From China comes an image that reportedly shows the new Start Screen for Windows 10 for Phone, including a background image and group tile headers. In this example, the headers spell out "start" and "office," respectively. Another image supposedly shows off the Settings page for the next version of Microsoft's mobile OS.

There is some question about the authenticity of the picture, especially since the Xbox tile is supposed to be translucent. A look at the image shows that the tile is about as solid as can be. Still, if this is legit, the translation of the Settings page indicates that users will be able to make changes to the cellular radio to save battery life.

Microsoft is holding an event on January 21st at which time it is expected to unveil Windows 10 for Phones. The event will take place in Redmond, and of course you can find out all about the announcement right here.

Let's not look at his comment that way. What he probly meant is that Chinese texts can appear messy to some non-Chinese readers, and that one is quite true.

I didn't see that as racist. I knew exactly what he meant. My wife is Asian and I find some of the foods disgusting. Hell, some Chinese eat scorpions as a snack. That's one of the most disgusting foods you could eat because certain types are highly dangerous. To me a scopion is a scorpion. That does not make me racist against Chinese.

Actually its a good looking simple UI that a 90y grandma can use unlike the Android UI/settings. The issue with WP8 was never its UI or lack of features but its mediocre app store and idiotic/moronic marketing of MS.

I have found the fact that both Android and iOS use grid lay-outs is as dull as you get. The use of Transparent tiles added a much needed dose of personality to the homescreen of WP. I will take my action tiles over swiping through dull grids of homescreens anyday.

Of course, I also can't stand onions. Even the smell makes me cringe. Other people can't imagine cooking without them.

I will just happily wait on the new live tile. The grids are all yours.

the way that windows phone handles app icons, stacking many in screen will almost blocks background completely!
i still don't understand the design logic.. you have a background blocked by solid colored squares!?

Everyone wishes they had Windows Phone homescreen its better than dead Icons. Look at Blinkfeed, its an Android feature that looks like Live Tiles same for magazine UX. Just a matter of time before everyone homescreen goes Tiled like. Many also hated Flat until their favorite OS went Flat. Hypocrites.

Show us that everyone wants flat tiles first.

We don't, actually most of the living breathing world does not, the numbers show that very clearly as if it was wanted wp would not be one foot into grave of obscurity it deserves.

Are you going now tell us the flatness is the entire reason we enjoy choices outside of the gulag wp?

Full, absolutely full of it you are, so many have called you out on it an fought with you trying to show you where you're wrong.
Writing is on wall, you just can't see it.

I don't have to show you that everyone wants flat tiles first, time has already done that look at Android and IOS inside of their OS already reflects that. Look at apps like Android TV own, they are all pretty much tiled like. Square tiles, minimalism, cleaness are all the rage.

I've showed you examples like Blinkfeed, Magazine UX etc but remember time will ultimately prove what I'm saying as far as homescreens go. Don't be surprised if Galaxy S6 has a default Tiled based similar to Windows Phone Live Tiles, HTC Blinkfeed etc. Its the future of homescreens, Icons are the past. The same way Flat UI was the future and Skeuomorphism the past.

Take a look at IOS and Android homescreens they look different from the inside if the OS. Windows Phone is the OS Tiled based on the homescreen and on the inside of the OS. Just a matter of time before they others jump on Tiled homescreen.

Time will tell who is full of it.

Most phones are blocked by icons. I have yet to have a customers phone not be blocked by icons and widgets....so tiles no big deal here.

The only picture that matters most to me is the lock screen pic, other than that its all relative.

What this means to win10 users is now that the background is full screen, the idea of one OS is actually more visible, since its the same way win8.1 home screen is right now for pc's. So it makes me wonder if will support 'themes' that will cross phone and pcs too.

I'll predict the future and say going forward that Android, iOS, Samsung and other OEM's will have Windows phone esque Tiled homescreens regardless of what they might call them.

All it takes is one of the big boys to ho Tiled the others wanted to keep up will follow.

WP did flat in 2010, ICS 4.0 showed some flatness in contacts etc but it was not until iOS 7 ( a major player) that Flat UI really took off because once Apple did it no one wanted to be left behind.

Microsoft is a leader people only hate things MS does because its MS they suddenly love those same ideas when others copy them.

Even if OEM GUI looked like that, we still have one up on that garbage, we can change the looks entirely.
Then there's XDA where Wm used to be something, we can do so much more then wp.
Where as with wp, you are struck with that look until you get out of that trap of ms.

Okay, okay... yes we remember WP7.5. Honest. We know. But why is it Android gets a pass for all the devices that the OEMs left in the cold when the latest Android comes out? All WP 7 devices got the NoDo update, all got the 7.5 (Mango) update, and the WP 7.8 update was what worked for those devices out of the WP 8 upgrade. That was 3 updates from MS in less than 2 years. Plus, WP 7 devices continued to get security patches. I know because I used a Lumia 900 up until late June or July of last year. (Is it sad I can't remember when I bought a new phone?) That was good support.

Microsoft has announced all WP 8 Lumia devices will get Windows 10. Which means the 2 upgrades to WP 8, the WP 8.1 update, and the one upgrade to WP 8.1 have all been sent to all WP's. So long as MS follows through on W10, that would be 5 updates to the UI on all their Lumia's.

At some point, we can accept MS is supporting their devices.

Hardware and kernel reasons. Currently win10 will be used to run on 512 where as win7 had diff rules.

Win10 should be free after all the os is free to OEMs on less then 9in screens. I wouldn't be mad but I wouldn't be happy either.

yes with a updated start menu with TILES as the pinned options.

Also users have a choice. In windows 10 you can currently select the old and new style. I have the metro for my tablet and desktop for my desktop. So no metro is not going away and they never said it was.
