Latest stats shows Google Play Store leading in downloads, but Apple App Store on top for revenue
App Annie has released the latest quarterly look at the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. For the three months ended in June, Android users downloaded 85% more apps from the Google Play Store than iOS users did from the App Store. But when it comes to bringing home the bacon, the App Store does a better job than its Android counterpart.

For the second quarter, the App Store recorded 70% more revenue than the Google Play Store. App Annie cites the abundance of cheaper Android phones and the success of the platform in emerging markets as one of the reasons for the difference between Android downloads, and the revenue generated by them. If Android users want to know why developers still write for iOS before Android, this is one of the reasons right here.

It isn't surprising that China and the U.S. are the top two countries for App Store downloads. Japan, the U.K. and Russia round out the top five. Looking at the same data for downloads from the Google Play Store, the U.S. is on top followed by Brazil, India, Russia and Mexico. The U.S. is the top revenue producing country for the App Store, which is hardly a surprise. Japan is second with China third. U.K. and Australia are fourth and fifth, respectively. The top revenue producing country for the Google Play Store is Japan with the U.S. in second. South Korea ,Taiwan and Germany complete the top five list.

Lastly, the Games category was not only downloaded the most by App Store and Google Play visitors during the second quarter of this year, it also brought in the most money for both stores.
