I've already made it clear that I'm really looking forward to the opening day of WWDC 2026 on June 8. Right after the conclusion of the keynote, Apple will release the first Beta for iOS 27, which should include the long-delayed update to Siri 2.0.
Are you looking forward to the June 8 release of iOS 27 Beta 1?
Personal Siri will be able to answer a question like, "What time should I leave to pick up my mother at the airport?" by scouring your Mail app, Photos app, Calendar app, and Messages app, pulling out any information about your mother's flight. Siri will then connect with a real-time flight app to see when the flight your mother is on is slated to arrive, and look at Apple Maps to figure out the time you should leave your home to get to the airport on time.
The other big change to Siri takes her to Oz where the Wizard will give her a larger and smarter brain in the form of a 1.2 trillion parameter custom Gemini Large Language Model (LLM) from Google. Apple will reportedly pay Google $1 Billion for this upgrade. The improvement to Siri that makes her much smarter and more useful is now not the only reason to install the iOS 27 Beta n June.
Apple is adding new photo-editing features for the iPhone, iPad, and Mac
What iOS 27 feature will have you installing the Beta on June 8?
According to a report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is also changing up its photo-editing features for the iPhone, iPad, and Mac with iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27 respectively. Apple will be counting on its Apple Intelligence AI initiative to power the new capabilities.
Users will have three new photo-editing features for the Apple Photo app in OS 27
A new "Apple Intelligence Tools" section will be found in the editing interface of the Apple Photos app with three options that can make changes to a photo in mere seconds. With "Extend," users will be able to add content that appears beyond the boundaries of the original frame of the photo. In other words, when zooming out of a picture, AI will fill in the background.
The "Enhance" option improves the quality of an image automatically, and can improve the lighting and the color of a photo. Lastly, the third option is called "Reframe," which will allow users to change the perspective of a photo for spatial photos.
Internal testing of these features has not gone smoothly
Gurman says that during internal testing some of these new tools, especially Extend and Reframe, did not perform reliably. As a result, Apple could delay the release of these tools or scale back on their capabilities for the iOS 27 Beta 1 release.
The optics of another AI delay would not look good for Apple considering that the Siri 2.0 update has already been delayed multiple times.
