FaceTime in iOS 7 getting voice calling
It wasn't enough of a major announcement to get a demo or even its own segment of the show, but users should be happy to note that FaceTime is finally getting the option for voice-only calling with the iOS 7 update. Apple didn't give a lot of information on the update, but did say that FaceTime will be able to make "high quality calls over a data network". Given that no specific type of "data network" was mentioned, we assume this means anything from 3G to WiFi will work with the app.

Unless it goes cross platform, there's still not much here. I would love for it to come to Android, WP, BB, and everywhere else, but if it's still just ios then there's not much use.

"We've made it so the iPhone can make voice calls..." or... "Why make a phone call when you can use Facetime Audio?" ...I'm beating my head against my desk...

This is good but the carriers might make this a bit difficult because those guys want to get paid for any device that they largely subsidized. Hopeful apple trows its weight around and if they get there way the same thing has to be done for everyone else.
