With the OnePlus 3's VR unveiling set to take place on June 14th, the company decided to reveal the behind the scenes action that took place with last year's introduction of the OnePlus 2. That phone, you might recall, was the subject of many leaks and was also unwrapped via VR. The video, titled "The Second Album," starts 31-days before the announcement.

OnePlus co-founders Pete Lau and Carl Pei discuss the founding of the company and the reasons why OnePlus exists. We also are shown images of the OnePlus 2 on the assembly line, and watch as the first batch of phones is delivered to the office. The video gives a shout out to the unique OnePlus community, with some dedicated fans of the company posting as many as 200 times a day on the OnePlus forum.

The idea for the VR unveiling came from a desire to have OnePlus' fans share in the event. And with these fans scattered throughout the world, having the unveiling held in one place accessible to everyone made VR the perfect solution.

One major problem took place during the taping of the event when a random job-seeker visited the lobby looking to apply for a position. He accidentally overheard Carl Pei giving the launch date, pricing and other information that would have made for a major leak for us media types. But as it turned out, Pei accidentally said the wrong date of the OnePlus 2's launch (he said it would be on August 18th, a week later than the actual date) which we see him correct with an overdub. We never find out if the guy got a job with OnePlus.

All in all, it is a fascinating look at the OnePlus 2's introduction. If anything, it gives you some appreciation for the hard work it takes to coordinate the global unveiling of a new smartphone.
