We've heard leaks about the specs, hinge improvements, and we've even seen multiple renders... and yet, it seems we don't already know everything about Samsung's upcoming foldable phones. Well, the company may be preparing some new camera features as well, making this year's launch possibly the most exciting so far.
One UI 9 to bring a fancy, mysterious camera feature

SamMobile claims the feature will initially be exclusive to the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra and Z Fold 8, though it might eventually roll out to older foldable devices through a software update.
The most curious thing about this supposed new feature is that no one seems to know what it does. SamMobile doesn't specify how credible the information is, but it has been covered by multiple outlets so far, suggesting it's more than just a rumor.
Should Samsung add more camera features?
Refining existing camera features

Mirror View aside, Samsung is expected to improve some existing features in its camera app and add new functionalities in One UI 9. For example, users may be able to turn off the auto-off function, which closes the camera app after a period of inactivity.
The pro-grade Minimum shutter speed feature is also supposedly getting a new option in Photo mode: 1/60 second. At the time of writing, users can choose from 1/30, 1/120, 1/500, and 1/1000 seconds.
This setting lets users select the slowest shutter speed, giving them more control over the balance between image brightness and motion blur.
Additionally, the company is rumored to add more languages to its Camera Assistant, allowing more users to use the app in their native language.
Samsung has long been a big player in smartphone photography. The Galaxy S26 Ultra is currently among the best camera phones we've tested, ranking in our top three.
If the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra debuts with the rumored new camera hardware and these new features, the tech giant could once again remind the competition that it's still one of the industry's strongest contenders.

What's coming to existing phones?

If true, that indicates the auto-off feature, additional Camera Assistant languages, and the other rumored improvements should land on existing flagship phones once a stable version of One UI 9 becomes available.
The wait is almost over

At first, I was all about the Galaxy Z Fold 8. The new form factor was the main reason for my interest, of course. But if I have to be honest, I'm no longer convinced it'll be the main highlight at the July 22 Galaxy Unpacked event.
The new Mirror View feature and the rumored hardware upgrades may very well make the Z Fold 8 Ultra the most exciting of them all.
