Samsung just unveiled Flex Titanium, a new foldable display structure heading to its next generation of Galaxy foldables, with a full reveal set for Galaxy Unpacked on July 22. The tech combines two titanium components to cut down on the crease that current book-style foldables, including the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and rivals like Google's Pixel 10 Pro Fold, are still known for.
What Samsung just announced
Samsung says Flex Titanium is built from two titanium-based parts. A titanium-alloy film sits below the OLED panel and offers 20 times greater stiffness than the plastic film used on past models, while measuring in at about one-third the thickness of a human hair.
Beneath that sits a titanium plate supporting the display module from underneath. A new hole-processing method closes the air gaps between the module and its adhesive, giving the screen steadier support when unfolded without losing the flexibility needed for repeated folding.
Samsung's strength in the foldable category comes from connecting user needs with technologies that deliver tangible benefits in everyday life. For the next generation of Galaxy foldables, Samsung is building on years of expertise to bring display innovations into devices that enhance user experiences, anchored by exceptional viewing.

Would Flex Titanium change your foldable phone plans?
What this means for foldable owners
This tech is specific to Samsung's next Galaxy devices, so it won't retroactively improve a Z Fold 7 or change anything on a Pixel 10 Pro Fold or OnePlus Open. Still, crease visibility and durability are common complaints across the category, so a real fix from the segment leader tends to push the rest of the industry to catch up.
It should be noted that our own reporting on the Z Fold 8 rumors has suggested it might drop titanium from its exterior backplate for carbon fiber-reinforced plastic, even as Samsung leans harder into the metal for the display itself.

Why the titanium plate actually matters
Here's a quick breakdown of what each part does:
Titanium-alloy film: sits below the OLED panel, adds 20 times more stiffness than plastic film and measures about one-third the thickness of a human hair
Titanium plate: sits beneath the display module, uses micro-patterned holes to remove air gaps against the adhesive and keeps the panel flexible for repeated folding
Kyung-Jin Yoo, who leads Samsung Display's mobile product development team, credited those micro-patterned holes with keeping the plate flexible without sacrificing durability. Samsung also says the structure pairs with higher-resolution architecture and newer organic materials, sharpening the image while improving power efficiency.
Reserve the Galaxy Z Fold 8 or Z Flip 8 at Samsung
Samsung has just opened its reservation campaign, allowing you to reserve your next Galaxy Z Fold 8 or Z Flip 8 device. The official store is giving you a $30 reservation credit, plus a chance to win one of 10 $500 gift cards.
I'm always a little cautious with display language like "next-level viewing" until a review unit is actually in hand, since marketing copy rarely tells the whole story on crease depth or long-term wear. That said, tackling crease visibility head-on is the right instinct if Samsung wants book-style foldables to feel less like a compromise.
We'll get the full picture at Unpacked on July 22, and I'm hoping the real-world testing backs up what's being promised here.
