Very good news for your wallet if you want Samsung's next best gadget, as no price hikes are expected

Samsung will probably refrain itself from "blessing" its upcoming Galaxy SmartTag 3 with a price hike and that's the good news I was waiting for.

Recently, we told you about the SmartTag 3's potential design change and now, we've got some cool renders that show the tracker from all sides.

Trust me on this one: get one (a smart tag, I mean) before it's too late. Put it in your suitcase, your bag, your car, your keys or your wallet, it doesn't matter. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Looking fancy

Let's start with the older (the current, really) Galaxy tracker:



And now, here's the upcoming SmartTag 3, per this report:



It's a big difference and Samsung is now going for a cleaner, more rounded look. The tracker appears to have a squircle-shaped body with heavily curved corners and a large circular section.

The leaked White version has a light-colored outer frame surrounding the central section, while the middle itself appears to have a metallic finish:



There should also be a Black version, using essentially the same design but with a darker finish throughout:

Yes, but…

Sadly, Samsung may have made one change that could actually be less convenient for users. The leaked SmartTag 3 doesn't appear to have an integrated hole for attaching it directly to a keyring or lanyard.

That means you may need (buy!) a separate protective case with an attachment loop if you want to hang the tracker from your keys, backpack or luggage. Will Samsung give you a case with a loop for free? I doubt it, but I'd be happy to be wrong on this one.

Specs and educated guesses

The current Galaxy SmartTag 2 supports Bluetooth and Ultra-Wideband (UWB), allowing compatible Galaxy devices to locate the tracker with greater precision. It also comes with IP67 (that's the rating for protection against dust and water), while NFC-based Lost Mode allows someone who finds a lost tag to access the owner's contact information.

Battery life is another strong point of the current model. The SmartTag 2 can last up to 500 days in its regular mode, with Samsung claiming as much as 700 days when Power Saving Mode is enabled.

That being said, there's no information about whether the SmartTag 3 will retain those specifications, but I doubt these will be degraded in any way.

What about the price?

Another report claims that a US distributor listing shows the Galaxy SmartTag 3 at $29.99 for a single unit, which would put it at exactly the same starting price as the current Galaxy SmartTag 2. The same database lists a four-pack for $99.99.

In the EU, the SmartTag 3 could land at €45.95, which would be around €6 more than the previous model. So European pricing may not follow the US approach.
