Is your home intelligent, and if yes—is it intelligent enough? Is it artificially intelligent… or is it Super Intelligent, as the I-am-still-your-president guy would put it? And, most importantly—is your home safe enough?

These days (rather—weeks and months), the AI apocalypse is among the most discussed topics. Many seem to panic about it, but there's an easy explanation for that: the tech bros themselves rang the alarm one too many times.

And that's kind of uncharted territory—their behavior, I mean. When was the last time that the very people who pioneered and developed something went public about how the thing they're making is extremely dangerous? In contrast, I remember how the Seven Dwarfs swore that nicotine wasn't addictive 30 years ago.

Collaborating with Google

Speaking of home security, AT&T and AI, we're really speaking about AT&T Connected Life, the "first home security product built on the intelligence of the Google Home Platform with Gemini", as the telco puts it.

They argue that a smart home doesn't start and end with yet another smart gadget. The magic—and the real, enhanced security—happens when all smart devices are interconnected and there's a system behind the scenes.

The home network

The closer the home security devices work together, the better, as routine details are optimized and alerts are more meaningful. That's why AT&T Connected Life combines home security cameras, equipment and monitoring in one app. The company is now adding more features to make it easier to keep track of what's happening at home without having to constantly check notifications.

For example, AT&T Connected Life now includes Google's Gemini for Home features through Google Home Premium. Instead of sending basic motion alerts, the system can provide more detailed descriptions of what's happening, including deliveries, the number and size of packages… and people showing up at the door.

Users can also search their recorded camera footage by asking everyday questions, such as who dug up the yard or let the dogs out. There's also a daily Home Brief that summarizes hours of recorded footage and household activity, so users don't have to scroll through endless video clips.

AT&T is also adding continuous 24/7 video recording, allowing customers to review footage from throughout the day rather than relying only on short clips triggered by specific events.

AT&T is also looking at ways to use its existing network to make home security more convenient. Connected Life can already automatically arm or disarm a security system based on how close the user is to home, without requiring them to open an app or press a button.
