The Galaxy S25 Edge flop is why one Galaxy S26 model won’t get a display upgrade

Samsung had to sacrifice some Galaxy S26 upgrades after the Galaxy S25 Edge failure.

Samsung’s initial plan for the Galaxy S26 series was very different from the lineup we’re expected to see in the coming weeks. The company planned to launch Galaxy S26 Pro, S26 Edge, and S26 Ultra, but the flop of the ultra-slim Galaxy S25 Edge forced it to reconsider that plan. Due to that shakeup, the upcoming S26 Plus may have missed a display upgrade.

The Galaxy S26 Plus won’t get a display upgrade because of the S25 Edge flop

Samsung won’t upgrade the display of the Galaxy S26 Plus because it didn’t have enough time to develop the model. According to a report (translated source) from the Korean publication The Elec, the company wanted to use the display panel it had developed for the S26 Edge but later decided against it. By the time that decision was made, there was no time left to develop a replacement.

Due to the mix-up, the Galaxy S26 Plus is reportedly getting an almost identical display to that of the Galaxy S25 Plus. That screen will have a 6.66-inch diagonal and may be protected by a new type of glass.

Unlike the larger model, the vanilla Galaxy S26 may get a new 0.11-inch larger display, reportedly measuring 6.27 inches. If Samsung had the time, the panel on the S26 Plus might have also been larger than last year’s model.

Prioritizing the Galaxy S26 Ultra

While the mass production of the vanilla and Plus models is expected to start this month, Samsung has been focused on the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Mass production of the top-tier model began in December, partially because its development was on schedule, but also because Samsung prioritized securing components for it.

That’s natural, as the company’s January production target for the Ultra model is to have 3.6 million units. That’s in stark contrast with the 700,000 vanilla devices and 600,000 Plus units. Those numbers will be adjusted next month, with the company expected to bump up the numbers for the standard and Plus models and lower the Ultra production.

Do you plan to get a Galaxy S26 Plus?

The premiere of the Galaxy S26 series is expected on February 25, before a release on March 11. Samsung is yet to confirm the official dates, though.

Not the biggest issue

Considering that the Plus models are usually the least popular of the bunch, I don’t think the missed update is such a big deal. However, I find it equally sad and hilarious that the failure of the ultra-slim smartphones has so many consequences.
