Siri AI continues to get better as iOS 27 Developer Beta 4 is released

Apple has released iOS 27 Developer Beta 4 as the platform moves closer to a major stable release in September. The update brings Siri AI to the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16 series, and the iPhone 17 line.
Siri AI takes another step forward with the release of iOS 27 Developer Beta 4
When the first iOS 27 Developer Beta was released, Siri AI was a huge improvement over the Siri that most iPhone users are familiar with, as it responds like a conversational AI chatbot. Siri will no longer give you excerpts from three websites, or ask if you want ChatGPT to give you a brief response. With Siri AI, you get in-depth responses and can ask a follow-up without having to activate Siri again.
Which AI app is your go-to?
I had been using Gemini as the assistant on my Pixel 6 Pro and the experience was amazing. As I wrote on the day that the iOS 27 Developer Beta was first released, iPhone users would love Siri AI, but it truthfully was not yet as good as Gemini. But that was the first beta.

With each new release, Apple has improved Siri AI and with iOS 27 Developer Beta 4, the chatbot is even better. While it is getting closer to my experience with Gemini, it sometimes cuts off before I can finish speaking a verbal prompt, and occasionally there is no response at all. Because occasionally there is a glitch, I have installed several other AI apps to fall back on, such as:
Since the first iOS 27 Developer Beta was released, Siri AI has become much faster at responding to prompts, both verbal and written. I don't want to be a Ken (a male Karen?), but I do want to mention that with its new capabilities as an AI chatbot, Siri is not as quick to set up an alarm or timer when you ask for one to be created. That seems like a small price to pay for the big improvements made to Siri overall.
Apple is following its typical path forward
I haven't had the opportunity to use personal Siri that much, but when I do, it seems to be going through my calendar and Gmail to find events that I ask about. The stable iOS 27 release is scheduled to be pushed out by Apple in September. By that time, it would appear that Siri will be capable of doing everything Apple promised it would when its plans were unveiled in June 2024.
The tech giant is following its typical script when it comes to Siri AI. The Apple game plan usually calls for letting some other companies get their feet wet first and then the gang in Cupertino comes up with a better mousetrap. Apple then introduces its improved product with a catchy name amid huge fanfare. This is the script Apple used with the iPhone, and it served Apple well.

With Siri AI, the new mousetrap might be its ability to run as a system-level agent that can read live-screen context and take multi-step actions across native and third-party apps. Gemini can do this on Android as well, but there is a big difference. Siri can have its system-wide actions processed on-device rather than in the cloud.
Does Apple have a better mousetrap?
This will allow Apple to promote more privacy for Siri AI users on iOS compared to Gemini users on Android. And on-device AI processing is also faster and allows users to employ AI even when offline. It might not be a huge mousetrap, but it might be a big enough one for Apple to promote.
The bottom line is that Google's deeper system agent capabilities rely on cloud-based Gemini models compared to Apple's architecture designed to be "local-first." Will this be enough for Apple to build an ad campaign around? It already heavily promotes iOS privacy versus Android, so sure, why not? The question is whether consumers will be able to grasp the meaning of such a campaign.
As for the latest iOS 27 Developer Beta release, go to Settings > General > Software Update. If a software update notification appears, follow the directions to install it.
