It’s been just a few months since Google increased the price of YouTube Premium in the US, but it appears it’s time for even more subscribers to start paying extra. In April, the price of the individual plan went up from $13.99 to $15.99 stateside, but Europeans may be subject to an even more drastic increase.
YouTube Premium is getting a price hike in Europe
Multiple reports on Reddit make it look like Google will introduce a significant price hike for European YouTube Premium subscribers, just months after that happened in the US. The change is probably going to be enforced in the coming months, with several screenshots mentioning dates in October for the first billing with the new prices.
It appears that the price change is different for different markets, with some users reporting a hike from €17.99 to €20.99 for the individual plan. However, other users report getting emails mentioning a price going to €16.99 per month from €14.99.
What’s consistent are the reports on the family plan prices, which could reach €29.99, up from €25.99 per month. It is still unclear which countries will be affected, but users from Portugal and Italy have reported receiving the notification emails.
Is YouTube Premium getting more expensive in the US?

Google has already adjusted the prices of YouTube Premium stateside, so it’s unlikely for the company to increase them again so soon. US users are now charged $15.99 for the individual plan, up from $13.99, while the family plan jumped to $26.99 from $22.99.
YouTube also increased the price of the YouTube Premium Lite plan to $8.99, up from its initial $7.99 price. While the cheaper subscription plan is available in some European countries, there are no reports of a price increase yet.
Would you pay more for YouTube Premium?
Unsurprisingly, the reactions to the increases range from unpleasant surprise to outright anger. However, the prevailing response on Reddit appears to be an intention to cancel the subscription and move on to murkier alternatives to get ad-free experiences.

Is it even worth it?
I cancelled my YouTube Premium subscription long ago because I never used YouTube Music and I never spent enough time watching videos to justify the price. After the latest price hikes, I see even less value in this subscription.
Obviously, many people feel very differently about YouTube Premium, but I still wonder where the limit is. What’s the price that’ll make too many people ask themselves if it's even worth it? I don’t think we’re there yet, but if things continue getting ever more expensive, we may reach the breaking point sooner rather than later.
