Back in July we reported that a new version of the Fairphone, one of the most secured phones on Earth, is coming. Well, the Fairphone 6+ is officially here, and for the first time in Fairphone's history, the model is available in the US.

Before glancing over the specs and dismissing this model, let me say this — Fairphone is not your usual smartphone. It's the brainchild of a Dutch company focused on privacy, repairability, and longevity.
The previous model scored a perfect 10 out of 10 on iFixit’s repairability scale, and the phone has been dubbed "the most ethical smartphone in the world," scoring 98 out of 100 possible points by the British magazine Ethical Consumer.
Back to the specs. The Fairphone 6+ comes equipped with a 6.31-inch LTPO AMOLED panel running at 120Hz, a Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset paired with 12GB of RAM, a 50MP main sensor paired with a 13MP ultrawide, 256GB onboard memory, and Android 16 out of the box.
Fairphone promises major software updates all the way to 2032, and the phone also features a microSD card slot, so you can expand the storage with up to 2TB.
Would you spend $649 on a Fairphone?

The biggest news here is the US availability. It's a significant shift in the company's policy and shows the growing interest in the region toward sustainability and privacy when it comes to smartphones.

The Fairphone 6+ is officially available through the company's US online store, as well as on Amazon. The phone is built to work on T-Mobile's network out of the box, meaning Metro, Mint, and Ultra subscribers riding the same network will also be able to just insert their SIM and start using the phone hassle-free.
The price might be hard to swallow

The title gives the price away, the Fairphone 6+ starts at $649. This might be a tough pill to swallow, given the modest specs of the phone.
Even though the Fairphone costs as much as a Galaxy S25 FE, the core idea here is different. It's not meant to win benchmarks or come on top in camera tests. The main appeal is that you can repair the phone yourselves.
Replacement parts are sold directly and transparently, ranging from $7.99 for a SIM tray up to $89.99 for a full display panel, so even if you crack the screen, it won't cost an arm and a leg to replace it.
If you want to try something different and also stick to one phone until 2032, Fairphone gives you that option. Would you spend $649 on such a phone?
Mint Mobile is now allowing you to get whichever plan you like for either three, six, or 12 months for just $15/mo. If you go for the six-month unlimited service, for instance, you'll now have to pay just $90 upfront instead of $210.
