Samsung decided to post a new video, titled "Welcome to Foldables," mere hours before the official launch of the first foldable iPhone. The teaser features the latest Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 devices, but the timing points toward Samsung pulling Apple's leg a little.

Welcome to Foldables video

The title of the videos can be viewed as a welcome message to Apple. The Cupertino company is set to release the first foldable iPhone, reportedly named iPhone Duo, in a couple of hours' time.

The video itself (you can watch it above) is pretty short and claims that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is the world's lightest foldable. At the end, there are the three foldable models from Samsung's portfolio this year — the Galaxy Z Fold 8, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and the Galaxy Z Flip 8.

Whether or not this is a friendly welcome or pure mockery, it's hard to tell.

Samsung is no stranger to mocking Apple

Samsung famously mocked the iPhone X and the introduction of the notch back in 2017 with a series of commercials.

They were pretty savage, compared to the innocent video the company posted today, but one never knows. We might be in for the next round of mockery ads from Samsung once the iPhone Duo gets officially announced.

The company is having a great time lately, as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 has been a hit since its debut, selling much faster than the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The wide fold is already Samsung's best-selling foldable, so the iPhone Duo has a tough battle ahead.

Apple is late to the foldable party. By seven years

Apple used to dictate things when it comes to smartphone innovation, but in the past couple of years the company seems to be on the back foot.

When it comes to foldables, Samsung has a massive advantage in the form of market share, as Galaxy Fold devices have been available for the past seven years.

The competition from the Far East is even more fierce, but according to the latest rumors, the iPhone Duo won't leave the US borders. Apple might've decided to keep things local and with Samsung, Motorola, and Google as main competitors, rather than let the iPhone Duo compete on the global scene.

The other version is that Apple has been facing production issues and doesn't have the numbers to push a worldwide launch right away.

Speaking of worldwide launches, we're into the year of the wide fold form factor.

Wide foldables are the new hype

It seems that the world loves wide foldables. Huawei launched the first wide foldable back in May. The Pira X Max features a 14.1:10 aspect ratio (close to 4:3) and resembles an old and forgotten form factor—Microsoft Surface Duo.

Samsung followed suit with the Galaxy Z Fold 8, and people seem to love it. Xiaomi was the latest to hop on the wide foldable train, showing the Xiaomi 18 Fold at the IFA 2026 trade show.

Now, Apple is expected to join the fray and "reinvent" the foldable with the iPhone Duo. According to the latest rumors, the foldable iPhone is expected to start at $1,999, a benjamin more than its direct competitor, the Galaxy Z Fold. Which one will win this fight?
