The state-of-the-art Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra went down from its normal starting price of $2,099.99 on Samsung's official US website with no obligatory device trade-in for the very first time yesterday, and if you were expecting Amazon to quickly follow suit with a similar discount of its own, that's exactly what you're getting today.

Yes, the e-commerce giant is selling probably the best foldable phone available in the US right now for a whopping 300 bucks less than usual in both 256 and 512GB storage variants and three color options (for each of those two configurations), and naturally, you don't need to meet any special requirements to qualify for this unprecedented and highly anticipated Amazon deal... that I wasn't sure would come this early.

Originally priced at $2,099.99 and up and sold alongside various interesting freebies during its first few weeks of US availability, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is now available at a killer $300 outright discount with no special requirements and no strings attached. The ultra-high-end foldable comes with 8 and 6.5-inch screens in tow, as well as a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor under the hood, 12GB RAM, a 5,000mAh battery supporting 45W charging speeds, and a triple rear-facing camera system composed of 200, 10, and 50MP sensors.

While it's certainly not unusual to see such ultra-expensive Samsung handsets sold at substantial discounts mere weeks after a commercial debut, the ongoing industry-wide memory chip crisis and the resulting price hikes for many phones and tablets from most major (and minor) brands made me skeptical that a "typical" deal schedule would be followed by products like the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra.

But although that seems to be true for the wide new Z Fold 8, which is reportedly selling like hotcakes around the world even at its regular prices, the extravagant Z Fold 8 Ultra may have needed a discount to improve its mass appeal.

At $300 off its $2,099.99 list price in an entry-level 256GB storage variant, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is now cheaper than the most affordable "regular" Z Fold 8 model, and if you think you can live with a "conventional" book-style foldable design and a 1.11:1 aspect ratio on the gargantuan 8-inch primary display (and 21:9 as far as the 6.5-inch cover screen is concerned), I believe you should pick the higher-end and lower-cost option today.

Yes, the Ultra has better cameras, a thinner profile (both folded and unfolded), and a larger battery than its wide brother in addition to bigger screens, and even if you compare it with Google's brand-new Pixel 11 Pro Fold, I think the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra emerges victorious in key departments like overall raw power, design, and camera performance.

Now all that's left to decide is whether to get the foldable beast from Amazon at a $300 outright discount or through Samsung's official US website at the same discount with free $200 store credit also included and no trade-in required. That sounds like a no-brainer, but it's always nice to have as many advantageous buying options as possible for the best Android phones around.
