You don't have to be a very keen follower of the mobile industry to predict that Motorola will release a few new foldable devices this year as sequels to the Razr 60 family. But officially, the company hasn't begun building buzz around the Razr 70 series, which suggests an announcement might not be right around the corner just yet.

Then again, the rumblings of the rumor mill are getting louder and louder, and after the top-of-the-line Razr Ultra (2026) leaked out in high-quality renders last week and the first Razr (2026) image and specs were seemingly revealed a couple of weeks before that, a new report leaves very little to the imagination as far as the color options of the family's most affordable member are concerned today.

Playing things safe is not in Motorola's DNA

You know how some phones are released in boring white and black (or, even worse, white and gray) hues? That never happens with Motorola's Android devices, as even the entry-level Moto G (2026), for instance, is sold in snazzy Pantone Slipstream and Cattleya Orchid colorways.

As such, it definitely shouldn't come as a surprise that the Razr 70 is tipped to be offered in Pantone Sparkling Green (with a carbon fiber-like texture), Pantone Hematite (with a fabric-like texture), and a pink shade (with a "different finish altogether") whose Pantone name is not yet known. To be clear, the "vanilla" Razr 70 is likely to be identical to the non-Plus and non-Ultra Razr (2026), the only distinction being the regions covered by the two handsets (which are actually one and the same).

That means the US-specific Motorola Razr (2026) and "international" Razr 70 are expected to share the same three undeniably eye-catching paint jobs in addition to a spec sheet that's no longer a big mystery.

Will there be any last-minute surprises?

To be perfectly honest, I don't know (and can't know) for sure, but it's certainly possible given that the Motorola Razr 70 was pictured in China last month in a light purple shade that doesn't seem to be among the three colors rumored today.

That was expected to be dubbed Pantone African Violet, which is also one of the two flavors tipped for the Razr 70 Plus a little while back. Another detail that puzzles me regarding the non-Plus Razr 70 is that "Pantone Sparkling Green" hue, which is nowhere to be found on the official Pantone website.

What I could find there is a Pantone Sparkling Grape color that Motorola actually used on the non-foldable Edge 60 Pro last year, which makes me think that's going to be the Razr 70's third (or fourth) option after all, alongside Hematite, pink, and light purple. Oh, and in case you're wondering, hematite is apparently a reddish-black mineral consisting of ferric oxide, although the Pantone Hematite color looks much closer to gray than either black or red to me.

Here's a quick reminder of the Razr 70's expected specs

  • 6.9-inch primary OLED screen with 2640 x 1080 pixel resolution;
  • 3.63-inch secondary OLED panel with 1066 x 1056 pixel resolution;
  • 8, 12, 16, and 18GB RAM options;
  • 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage variants;
  • 50MP primary rear-facing camera;
  • 50MP secondary rear-facing camera;
  • 32MP front-facing camera;
  • Octa-core 2.75GHz processor;
  • 4,500mAh battery;
  • 33W charging capabilities;
  • 171.3 x 73.9 x 7.2mm dimensions (unfolded);
  • 188 grams weight.

Will the affordable foldable strike gold at the global box-office?

That, my dear friends and readers, may well depend on just how low Motorola will be able to keep its price point during these tough times for the tech industry as a whole.

If the Razr (2026) comes out with those excellent (albeit pretty familiar) specs and features and those very attractive-sounding colorways at the same $699.99 starting price as the Razr (2025) in the US, I believe the sky is the limit for the handset's sales figures and it's only a matter of time until Motorola becomes the nation's top foldable vendor.

If the new device needs to go up to $799.99 at launch for its manufacturer to keep the rising memory chip costs in check, beating Samsung might become a little harder... even if the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will still be the (much) pricier clamshell on the market.
