The iPhone Duo is finally here. After months of rumors and speculation, Apple's first attempt at a foldable phone has been unveiled during the Surprise and Shine event. And one particular area actually surprised everybody: the price.

We now know that the iPhone Duo starts at $1,999, but most of the rumors claimed much bigger numbers. Some leaks even suggested the foldable could hit $3,000.

Of course, there's no way this particular poll changed anything about the actual price of the iPhone Duo. First, it was too close to the launch window of the phone, and second—and more importantly—I doubt Apple would be swayed by media surveys done by third parties.
What could've happened, though, is Apple had its own survey about the iPhone Duo's price tag, and it returned similar results. The company ultimately decides the market price of a product and the profit margin it gets from it.

I'm not saying that $1,999 is cheap by any stretch of the imagination. But compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 8, the $100 price hike of the iPhone Duo seems like not that big of a deal.
I'm pretty sure the profit margin on the iPhone Duo is much smaller than, let's say, the one on the iPhone 18 Pro, and this goes to show that Apple has learned its lesson from the Vision Pro fiasco.
This is pure speculation on my part, of course, but it seems that Apple has chosen to make the iPhone Duo actually competitive, even if that means smaller profit numbers.
And in a foldable market where Samsung has been dominating for years, it makes a lot of sense.
