Android 11 update is apparently delayed to 2021 for two OnePlus models
According to the Chinese language version of the OnePlus forum, it appears that we have some good news and bad news pertaining to the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T. The good news is that Android 11 is going to be made available for those phones. But since this is not really a big deal and was expected anyway, you know that the bad news has to be very bad! And it is. While an earlier leaked roadmap indicated that we would see the Android 11 update hit the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T sometime this month, we now know that there is a delay and we might not see the latest Android OS build disseminated to these models until next year.''

After all, it is now more than halfway through December which increases the odds that the Android 11 update will arrive sometime in 2021 for the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T. The delay is being caused by a problem that OnePlus has discovered on the phones with the encryption of data while running Android 11. And while the announcement is specifically related to the Chinese version of the software known as Hydrogen OS, it seems likely that the U.S. version (known as Oxygen OS) will be impacted as well. Oxygen OS shares a code base with Hydrogen OS.

This isn't the first time that OnePlus has had a problem with an update. Last year, the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T models had issues trying to update to Android 10. These problems carried over for three months. The OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T lost the Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) feature for the camera on the phones following an update. EIS was not returned to the two handsets until November when a new update rolled out. And those who purchased the Nord 10 5G and Nord N100 discovered that they are limited to one major Android system update, Android 11.

Hopefully OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T owners won't have to wait terribly long for an update from OnePlus that delivers Android 11 to their phones.
