The iPhone Air 2 will launch early next year alongside the base iPhone 18 model as well as the iPhone 18e. Despite making it even slimmer than its predecessor, the iPhone Air, Apple is still somehow going to include two upgrades that might change the tide when it comes to sales performance.
iPhone Air 2 will be much slimmer

The iPhone Air is 5.6 mm thick, which makes it an exceptionally svelte smartphone in the current day. According to a new report (translated source), Apple is slimming down the iPhone Air 2 even further.
To be precise, the iPhone Air 2 will be 0.4 mm slimmer, bringing it down to just 5.2 mm. That’s still over a millimeter thicker than the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra when it’s unfolded, but the iPhone Air 2 isn’t a foldable phone.
For standard candy bar phones, the iPhone Air 2 will be shockingly slim. The base iPhone 17, for example, is almost 8 mm thick.

It will still have a larger battery
Despite the slimmer body, the report also mentions that the iPhone Air 2 will come with a larger battery. The iPhone Air has a battery capacity of around 3,150 mAh, which is something that many people mocked despite the phone having a better battery life than the base iPhone 16.
A previous report alleged that the iPhone Air 2 will have a battery capacity of at least or over 3,500 mAh, which is a pretty healthy increase.

There is also a second camera

Lastly, the iPhone Air 2 is also picking up a second camera, an ultrawide. Shipping with only one good-but-not-great camera was another aspect of the iPhone Air which many customers could not accept, leading to generally very poor sales.
The iPhone Air had its appeal, of course, but the downsides outweighed the pros for most people.

Two upgrades that I care about

In my opinion, Apple has its priorities straight. While I would have preferred a telephoto camera over an ultrawide, I acknowledge that an ultrawide is probably what most consumers prefer for group photos and the like.
And, as I’ve said many times before, I’ll never say no to a bump in battery capacity.
