I knew the iPhone 17 series was brilliant, but Apple just dropped a bombshell

The iPhone 17 Pro redesign, as well as the upgrades for the base iPhone 17, have done wonders for Apple.

The iPhone 17 series has been performing exceedingly well since its launch last year. A redesign for the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max, though divisive at first, has helped these models immensely in the long run.

Now that sales numbers are doing the rounds, Apple has revealed just how popular the iPhone 17 series really is.

iPhone 17 most popular lineup in history

According to Kevan Parekh — CFO at Apple — the iPhone 17 lineup is the most popular in the company’s history. In a statement (subscription required), Parekh clarified something we had suspected, the redesign did wonders.

But it’s not just the Pro models that are selling incredibly well. Apple did something ingenious with the base iPhone 17 as well.

Base iPhone 17 is a remarkable package

The base model of the iPhone 17 lineup is one of the best iPhone models that Apple has released in a very long time.

Giving the base model a jump in the starting storage amount was a great move. Equipping it with a ProMotion display — Apple’s marketing term for a 120 Hz screen — was even better.

For users who don’t mind a smaller phone, or actively prefer it, the base iPhone 17 is an excellent deal. It’s kind of similar to the MacBook Neo, which is also selling extraordinarily well.

The iPhone 17 Pro redesign

Divisive when it first leaked ahead of launch day, the iPhone 17 Pro redesign has helped sales skyrocket. Customers have been wanting something new for a very long time and the iPhone 17 Pro models provided that.

This has also emboldened Apple, which now wants to introduce new designs for the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 20 Pro as well.

A story we hear every year?

To be fair, this is something that we have heard Apple say before. But it is still an interesting development, given how many people were promising that they wouldn’t touch the iPhone 17 Pro with a 10-foot pole.

For me, one question now remains, whether the upcoming foldable iPhone Ultra can also capture market share like this or whether the price tag of $2,000+ will drive customers away.
