Though it is not even remotely as popular as the iPhone Duo, Honor’s Robot Phone is certainly one of the most attention-grabbing smartphones we’ve seen this year. With its integrated gimbal camera, the device is more of a content creation machine than a real robot, and it appears the idea was good enough to get a sequel.
The Honor Robot Phone 2 might be announced in the spring of 2027
Honor is reportedly already working on the second generation of its Robot Phone. According to a Weibo post (source in Chinese) from tipster Smart Pikachu, the Chinese company has fast-tracked the development of the new phone as well as a standalone handheld device.
Both devices are said to feature cameras with “100MP-class” sensors, which will be once again developed in collaboration with ARRI. It’s unclear what the handheld device might be, but the target date for the two is in the second quarter of next year, or sometime between April and June 2027.

What camera will the Honor Robot Phone 2 get?

When it comes to the camera, the Weibo post comes with a lot of ambiguity. The leaker says there will be “100MP-class” cameras on the new phone, but the camera attached to the gimbal on the original Robot Phone used a 200MP sensor. There was also a 200MP telephoto periscope camera, and a 50MP ultra-wide shooter.

The post could mean that the new phone will stick to the same or a similar 200MP sensor, but it might also suggest a new sensor with lower resolution and larger pixels. It could also mean that the ultra-wide camera on the new model will go to over 100MP.
As for the premiere, the original Robot Phone was teased in October 2025, before its reveal at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The device launched in August, but it was never made available outside of China.
While it may look like a gimmick, the gimbal of the Robot Phone turned out to be a capable device for content creators. My colleague Rad had the chance to spend some time with it and found the experience more intuitive than his dedicated full-sized phone gimbal.
Can we get a global release?
I’m not a content creator, but I am always eager to get my hands on a crazy smartphone, even if I know I’d never buy it. That’s why I’d love to see the Robot Phone 2 launching outside of China. I mean, we deserve some fun phones, too.
