Google shocks some Pixel 9 Pro Fold owners by shipping them something they didn't expect

Google's warehouse must have a limited supply of some Pixel Pro Fold models.

In 2014, I purchased the DROID DNA, an underrated phone if there ever was one. It was also the first smartphone available for sale with a Full HD (1080p) display. The screen was a Super LCD3-panel with 441 ppi.

I turned in a defective DROID DNA for the best phone I ever owned

Not too long after I purchased my DROID DNA, the phone broke, and because HTC was out of replacement units, it sent me the HTC One (M8). What a break this was! The HTC One (M8) was not only a fabulous-looking phone, but it was also a spectacular device. It became my favorite phone of all time.

HTC peaked with the One (M8)

The HTC One (M8) was the peak for HTC. Sure, there was a mini version of the One (M8), and a variant that ran Windows Phone 8.1. But it was all downhill after these models were released:

  • HTC One (M9)-2015
  • HTC 10-2016
  • HTC U11-2017
  • HTC U11+-2017
  • HTC U12+-2018

Google surprises some Pixel 9 Pro Fold owners by giving them a Pixel 11 Pro Fold

You might wonder why I am bringing this up now. It turns out that some Pixel 9 Pro Fold users with a unit that no longer works have been unable to obtain a proper replacement unit. Instead, they are being shipped a Pixel 11 Pro Fold instead of a Pixel 9 Pro Fold. In other words, Google did not have enough Pixel 9 Pro Fold or  Pixel 10 Pro Fold units to ship to owners of a defective Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

I don't know about you, but I'd rather have a Pixel 11 Pro Fold replacing my Pixel 9 Pro Fold and I think most of you out there would agree. However, situations like this-when you are given the opportunity to replace your phone with a model that is two years newer-don't fall into your lap every day.

One of the owners receiving the Pixel 11 Pro Fold in exchange for a defective Pixel 9 Pro Foldpointed out that he was getting an extended three-year warranty from Google. The original warranty on his Pixel 9 Pro Fold had expired and he had no insurance.

In this case, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold user had issues with their front-facing cameras. He reached out to Google for a solution, and the Alphabet subsidiary approved replacing the busted model with a 512GB Pixel 11 Pro Fold. You are not going to say "no way" to that exchange, just like there was no way I'd turn down the HTC One (M8) for a DROID DNA.

By the way, there is no 256GB version of the Pixel 11 Pro Fold, so don't get too impressed with Google's largesse.
