The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra could borrow the Galaxy S26 Ultra's best display trick

It could be Samsung's first foldable to get this display upgrade.

While Samsung is officially going to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra within the next few days, most details about it have already surfaced online. For instance, the foldable is expected to receive the S Pen. Now, a new report suggests that it will also get the best display upgrade from the Samsung S-line phones.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra could offer better readability in direct sunlight

In 2024, Samsung launched the Galaxy S24 Ultra with an anti-reflective display. This was then used in the Galaxy S25 Ultra and all the models of this year's premium Galaxy series. The tech basically reduces glare and unwanted reflections to make sure your screen remains properly visible outdoors and in bright indoor conditions.

Leaker Ice Universe now claims that the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra would also come with the anti-reflective display. If it actually pans out to be true, then it would be the first time that we would see this tech being used in a Samsung foldable. The tipster does exclusively note in their post that it will only be used in the inner display, and there's no clarity yet on whether the outer screen would receive the same treatment.

Other display upgrades of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra

In addition to featuring an anti-reflective coating, the device is also rumored to be brighter than any other already available Samsung foldable. For reference, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is expected to have a peak brightness of 3,600 nits, which is 1,000 nits brighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The Honor Magic V6 currently holds the record for the brightest foldable with the inner screen brightness of 5,000 nits, and the outer display reaching a level of 6,000 nits.

The crease on the upcoming Ultra foldable is also said to be the least visible. Among all the foldables that are currently available, the crease on the Oppo Find N6 is believed to be the least visible. It will be interesting to see whether the upcoming Samsung product can compete against Oppo's device in this department.

What's the one upgrade you'd most like to see in the Galaxy Z Fold 8?

It's definitely a welcome change

Foldables have traditionally been more reflective than normal smartphones. The reason behind this is that their screens have a very glossy and soft nature. Because of this soft nature, it's difficult for manufacturers to reduce the glare while also maintaining screen durability.

You can find plenty of posts online where users complain that their foldables like the Galaxy Z Fold 7, are highly reflective. In the case of Samsung particularly, the company has definitely worked on this area over the years, as the Fold 7 screen is more readable in brighter conditions than the Fold 6. However, the issue is still there, as many users mention that they install an anti-reflective film on their Fold 7 the moment they get their hands on it.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 should also get the upgrade

The South Korean giant is reported to release at least three devices at its Galaxy Unpacked event that is scheduled for 22nd July: the Galaxy Z Fold 8, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and the Galaxy Z Flip 8. However, you might have noticed by now that I have been exclusively talking about the Ultra variant, as there is no confirmation from Ice Universe on whether non-Ultra models would also launch with an anti-reflective coating.

But I really hope that Samsung gives the same treatment to the other two smartphones launching at its upcoming event. Both the main competitors of the device, the Oppo Find N6 and the Honor Magic V6, feature this technology. However, there is no concrete evidence to prove whether or not Apple would give the same treatment to its upcoming foldable iPhone.
