The iPhone Air 2 could look like a very unusual phone because of its second camera

Apple replaced the iPhone Plus models with the iPhone Air last year but sales have still remained unspectacular, likely because the company took too much out to make the phone so slim. As a result, the iPhone Air 2 will reportedly feature two cameras on the rear instead of just the one, but a new report alleges that it could have the most peculiar setup.

Possible iPhone Air 2 design leaks

According to a new report (translated source), due to the extreme space constraints within the chassis of the iPhone Air, Apple might have to shove in the second camera wherever it can. This leads to the possibility of said camera being placed on the opposite side of the camera island, rather than next to the first camera.

In the theoretical render, the flash is then placed in the middle of the two cameras.

A very cramped phone

To make the iPhone Air as slim and light as possible, Apple only shipped it with one camera on the rear, a tiny battery, and a subpar speaker setup. The phone was super slim, but it failed to attract many buyers because of how little hardware it provided for the price.



Adding a second camera and a few more milliamp-hours to the battery with the iPhone Air 2 is Apple’s way of desperately trying to add more value to its ultra-slim offering. However, the company might have to resort to the unusual setup shown above to make this a reality.

More bang for your buck

There were many Apple fans who loved how the iPhone Air looked and felt but stayed away because of how little it offered for the price.



With a second camera and a larger battery, the iPhone Air 2 could potentially attract more customers. However, if the rumored design is accurate, then the look of the phone itself may turn some people off.

I’d take this with a grain of salt

Personally, I find it a bit difficult to believe that Apple will design the iPhone Air 2 like this. This phone’s entire selling point is its sleek design, and this is anything but sleek. It looks like a phone that’s surprised at its own existence.

I think Apple will find another, better way. If the iPhone Air 2 looks like this, then I doubt that many will be convinced to give the second generation a go next year. I know I won’t.
