Nokia 3 gets Android 8 Oreo beta! Want to help test? You can join Nokia Beta Labs
Ever since launching its rebirth last year, HMD Global's Nokia has proudly promised that all of the smartphones in its portfolio would be getting Android updates — from the flagship Nokia 8, all the way down to the budget Nokia 2. Some of these phones have also been updated to Android 8 Oreo — obviously, flagships are still a priority, but it's a huge gesture when the "smaller fish" phones get it, too.

Well, Nokia 3 owners, you can now enjoy Android 8 Oreo on your phones as well! The public beta is out and Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas has taken to Twitter to not only announce it, but openly entice people to join.

Anyone can join Nokia Beta Labs by clicking the link we have provided below. You just need to enter your credentials and... well, having a Nokia phone waits. Then, just wait for your update. Here are the major things that Android 8 Oreo brings about, but we can't be sure which ones will be active on the low-tier Nokia 3. We assume Picture-in-Picture might have to be scrapped.

  • Picture-in-Picture mode
  • Android Instant Apps and Google Play Protect in the Play Store
  • Faster boot
  • Android Oreo battery optimizations
  • Fully redesigned set of emoji

Nokia should do something about its POOR optimization. The Nokia 2 with The Snapdragon 212 can't even make it to15,000 score on Antutu! Interesting because unknown Chinese Phones with the rock-bottom MT6582 and no LTE can break the 20 Grand barrier! Goes on to tell their poor optimization! G'Day!

it may not be because of optimization.. but rather Mt 6582 has a better GPU that may be pushing the score up , and a 2gb phone with that 6582 chipset would post better score in Antutu .. Good part is they didn't go with older 212 on Nokia 1 , but rather MT6737M

The original AndroidOne Smartphones with MT6582 and 1GB of RAM can do 21,000 so there goes the 2GB RAM theory! And to be more precise, technical and super geeky; The Mali-400 in MT6582 is rated at 9 gFlops whereas The Adreno 304 in Snapdragon 212 is rated at 21.6 gFlops (According to Wikipedia) so it doesn't have better GPU! Quite the opposite. What's strange is that The MT6737M is quite a bit superior than SD212 with 64-Bit Cortex-A53s (As opposed to 32-Bit A7s), roughly the same performing GPU and a 733Mhz RAM which is quite a leap from the 533Mhz module in SD212! It's more comparable to Snapdragon 425 (discounting The GPU). But of course, Snapdragons have better radios, sensors and better power consumption! Oh well...
