HMD official confirms Nokia 3, 5 and 6 will receive Android Oreo update by the end of 2017

Nokia fans who already bought HMD's new Android smartphones are probably excited for the upcoming Android Oreo updates the Finnish company has already confirmed. All four Nokia-branded handsets are expected to be upgraded to Android Oreo in the coming months, but at least three of them will receive the update by the end of the year.

HMD's General Manager for Australia, New Zealand, and Indonesia, Mark Trundle (at 5:15) confirmed that Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 will be running Android Oreo by the end of 2017. The company's flagship, Nokia 8 was spotted online with the new version of Android on board, so we can safely assume the smartphone will receive the update very soon.

If HMD keeps its promise, the Nokia 3 could become the cheapest smartphone to run Android 8.0 Oreo, thus making it even more popular among Android fans. At the opposite tier, the Nokia 8 might become the cheapest flagship to run Android 8.0 Oreo when HMD decides to release the update.

Although the update will first be rolled out to unlocked devices, the Finnish company may push carriers to release Oreo as quickly as possible to all compatible Nokia smartphones.

I like the way HMD has handled their new business model with their phones so far. It'll be interesting to see what they come up with next year too. My only gripe would be the way they're distributing their phones (at least where I am). A Nokia 6 (international model) with an unrealistic mark up and no warantee from a vendor on just doesn't cut it, and leaves Nokia as a non option for me at this time...

I really like the way they are handling Nokia branded handsets as well. So far, they are doing the Nokia name proud. Sucks that Nokia 6 is marked up so high by you from the vendor on Amazon, and with no warrantee, at that. Are there other vendors that you can get it from where you’re at?

I'm in Canada and have yet to see other vendors offer Nokia here. When buying from Amazon I prefer the "sold by and shipped from Amazon" route. I like how with Blackberry - Staples also carries all their unlocked products now. It's nicer when there's more purchasing options, especially for devices that cell carriers don't offer in store.

Totally agree with you. I always choose the same option you do when I’m buying from Amazon.

so now its the game between OnePlus vs. Nokia vs. Xiaomi A1. waiting to see which is faster to receive Oreo (besides Google and Nexus of course).

Besides the Google devices of course being the fastest, I think the next would be the OnePlus.

Any time we're not just getting another "#soon" confirmation is when I'm content, Nokia not following that toxic trend in public relations is a win-win for consumers.
