Lumia brand disappears from Microsoft's US online store

Lumia brand disappears from Microsoft's US online store
Microsoft has quietly ditched the Lumia category from its US online store, replacing it with a link to the company's Educational Store. All the info is still there, thankfully, and can be reached by clicking “Windows phone” in the “Devices” drop-down menu from the store's main page.

It is unclear when exactly the change was made, but we could determine that it happened somewhere between the 6th and 11th of August. The UK Microsoft online store still has the “All Windows phone” category on its front page.

We don't know what that means for the Lumia brand yet, but if previous rumors are anything to go by, probably nothing good. The quiet removal of the Lumia tab from Microsoft' s US online store was spotted by eagle-eyed MSPoweruser reader by the name of Mark.

But surface phone will be a premium phone... What about people on a budget...? But then again, rumors suggest that there will be not one but THREE surface phones... One for budget consumers. One for business consumers. And the last one aiming at ENTHUSIASTS who like to talk about Ghz and terra-flops... So, lets PRAY for the best... But I'm a little worried...

Why budget phones? Is Apple producing such devices? Why Microsoft should? Better producing flagships and mid range with great support, instead Samsung approach - hundred's models every year with almost zero support. Not Samsung hater or other. Just as example. Time is telling that Apple has better approach from both companies as revenue. G'day to you too.

I hope not. MS should be the premium brand only, let the OEMs bring out the budget phones. I mean look at the surface pro 4, surface book. All premium, there is no budget versions. Rumors were 1 enthusiast device, 1 business device.

RKO...? Randy Orton, I presume? Forever...? 90...? Presumably 1990...? I see... Do forgive me for saying this but... Your I.D tells A LOT about you, lad... Sounds like you're Young and probably naive too... No, Windows Store has ALL the apps you ever need... What it doesn't have is "Hip" Apps... Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger, Twitter and almost all IM Clients Apps are almost up to date... As a matter of fact; FB and its Messenger Apps for Windows 10 Mobile have came straight from iOS... Number of apps in Windows Store is way more than Tizen and Blackberry 10 combined... Besides, MS will roll out the anniversary update in October for all W10M compatible smartphones... I really wish that Surface Phone bring this sinking OS to surface... Why? Cause it's a gem of an OS... Lag free! G'Day!

There is google maps called "Maps app discovery". It has everything except navigation. But my guess is that is exactly what you use it for hehe. But honestly the built in Maps app is great and getting better. I think the biggest thing it still lacks is navigation re-routes in transit. So like if there's traffic ahead it should ask for a re-route. And of course google uses waze for better traffic analysis on smaller roads. But like MS said, they will focus on mobile in 2017. So all this stuff that mobile lacks is being built right now and slowly being tested by insiders. And that's exactly why they don't want to go all in on mobile, the OS is missing features that are basic requirements for people. So just sit back and make it perfect then toss it out at the world. In the meantime fans have options available to purchase these phones still.

Great so finally MS is going to do which it should have done earlier. Instead of forcing users to change their habbit, they should have tried to give users what they want. If MS does that everyone will love it just as we love our windows pc.

Let's at least be real. Lemme count the ways... The official AMAZON app! Amazon Instant Video AT&T Digital Life(Home security system) Hangouts HBO GO Keep Google Maps Google+ NWMLS(Real Estate Agent app) Periscope Safeway Slickdeals(retired) Superbeam Xfinity TV GO I could live with mobile websites on a lot of those things except Hangouts and Keep. I have a Lumia 640 that I carry around on me everyday as a backup phone with a FreedomPop sim card in it so I know Windows 10 Mobiles strengths and weaknesses. One of its definite weaknesses is that the Edge browser is effing GARBAGE. Webpages load HORRIBLY even on wifi. Also this notion that Windows Phone doesn't lag is a crock of ****. I've owned 6 different Windows Phones since my HTC HD7 and they all lag a little bit. Honestly the lack of Google Apps kills the deal. I can't live without Hangouts, and I can't live without Keep, but that's not Microsoft's fault Google won't design Apps for it. I love a Windows Phone, but I also see Windows Phone for what it's good for...old people. Android was too complicated for my father, so I got him a Lumia 520, from then on he's been happy because it's simple. Most smartphone users don't even install apps, they just bought the phone because that's what their Carrier recommended they do. Normal people can get by with Windows Phone just fine, power users not so much. And I'm not that young at 36 years old so it's not like I'm a child saying that.

There is an official Amazon app that was launched. It is a web wrapper and OS features are being built into it because westminster allows for that. Google Hangouts has a third party app that is fantastic but you have to pay for it(client for hangouts uwp both desktop/mobile). Periscope has many better third party apps. Sort of like Readit is way better than the official reddit app. There's a lot of passionate people in the windows phone world. Rudy Huyn built so many apps that were beyond high quality. Even snapchat until snapchat had it brought down. It actually had more features than snapchat. It had previous profiles on tinder way before tinder even introduced it. Anyways, windows mobile is not the focus, and not just because there's some big apps missing but because it is missing basic features for things like maps that could let people drop google maps. It's really a shame because w10m is one of the best OS's ever. I mean people honestly don't know how great it is till they truly give it a try. Anniversary update has made it so awesome. It will only get better. Start screen doesn't just have to be tiles. You can even pin ios rounded square style icons, you can have standard icons, pictures pinned, everything. I still have my iphone and asus zenfone 2 but don't really use them as I don't depend on too many apps. iPhone is definitely the best for apps in my opinion.

Duplex Media player+ Play Cast Edge browser supports it in anniversary update as well. Both high quality. Duplex Media player+ probably better. I think there's a free trial version without the +. I think part of the stores problem is also finding good apps as there are so many bad quality apps. They are going to start cleaning the store up on the 30th.

I'm a business traveler and a Windows Phone fan. Windows Phone does NOT have all the apps I'll ever need. It is missing basic apps for airlines, hotels, rental cars, banking, etc. I've been with Windows since mobile 6.5 but I'm done and my 3 windows phones went on ebay (Lumia 635, 1020, 1520). My company with 275,000 employees also dropped Windows Phones (and Blackberry) this year. Now they are iPhone only. Good luck to Microsoft if they try to get back in for the future So today I have a company provided iPhone 6s for work and a Nexus 5X for my personal phone.

if its true surface phone are coming and they use core m then this is how it is supperior -while you play angry birds and older pc title core m can play gta v and newer titles at 720p low details, -you can emulate playstation 2 games and nintendo 3ds, also dont forget dolphin for x86 is superior to arm. -continuum will make sense in x86 cpu, if you use miracast with your tv booom you have full desktop -full featured browser like firefox, chrome, edge etc -universal windows app and project centennial

Oh please... Stop humiliating yourself... UC Browser has been updated with Cortana support... Instagram support continuum... FB and Messenger Apps are EXACTLY like iOS... WhatsApp has also seen an update... Microsoft is rolling out anniversary update that lack any bugs for the most part... Project Islandwood (Google it) is up and running... And instagram might finally be available on Windows Platform... Asus ZenFone... Surface Phone... MS contract with BLU for affordable Windows Phone... One must be a COMPLETE nut case to make such a 'bold' remark about Microsoft and Windows Phone... Oh well... G'Day!

Can anyone enlighten me how a surface phone will be better than iphone or flagship android devices ? Please don not repeat the same old crap about windows os being more efficient.

The Windows Phone OS is fantastic but the app gap is real. If the Surface Phone runs REAL WINDOWS it has the potential to be a game changer. Unfortunately I just don't see it happening.

This can only mean (hopefully) that the Surface Phone is in its way. I'm eagerly anticipating what this handset will entail. At the very least, let it be every bit of a beast that the HP Elite X3 is.
