Honor may have a bigger plan for its Robot Phone than just making a little show.

Honor Robot Phone
Everyone’s busy talking about how AI will change everything, including smartphones, forever, but Honor may take things a step further. During the Magic8 series premiere in October, the company teased the so-called Robot Phone, which everyone thought would be just a concept device. However, it now appears the company has much bigger plans than that.

The Honor Robot Phone may enter mass production early next year

Honor’s AI-powered Robot Phone may enter mass production in the first half of next year. The information, shared (source in Chinese) on Weibo by leaker Smart Pikachu, suggests that the device will reach the market after the already announced launch during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in March.

The leak doesn’t include any specifics about where Honor may sell the Robot Phone, but it’s safe to assume it’ll be available in China. Considering the launch event will be in Europe, it wouldn’t be surprising if Honor released it in at least some international markets.

The craziest phone of 2026?

Honor’s first teaser of the Robot Phone was an AI-generated video in which the device looked like an animated movie character. The phone’s integrated gimbal was interacting with the world, including a few gasps of surprise and delight at things like the starry sky or a fireworks show. The company said the device will serve as a companion that senses and adapts to the user’s emotions and evolves autonomously.

Honor hasn’t shared almost any specifics about the Robot Phone. The company hosted a preview of the device, displaying it under a glass case during an event in China. That leaves many unanswered questions about its real-world capabilities.

Do you think the Robot Phone can be as good as its teaser suggests?

Visually, the Robot Phone resembles a thick iPhone 17 Pro with a gimbal camera that pops out from its back.

It’s a software challenge

I believe that Honor is capable of manufacturing the hardware of the Robot Phone with little issue. What makes me question the company’s plans is the software. AI is consistently under-delivering the magic-like features it promises. That’s why I expect the whole thing to be more of a funny gimmick than anything else.
