Sony Xperia XA1 and XA1 Ultra: all the official images

Bezels, lots and lots of bezels! We can't really agree with Sony when it lists the new Xperia XA1 and XA1 Ultra as having "borderless edge-to-edge" design, given what LG did with the newly-minted G6, or what Samsung and Apple are expected to do this year with their flagships. Don't believe us? Just look at the two phones' official images below, and marvel at that top and bottom bezels which get in the way of a good screen-to-body ratio...

Besides the top-shelf XZ Premium and XZs phones, Sony unveiled the mid-range Xperia XA1 and XA1 Ultra today, marking a full crop of spring handset covering the gamut of big to small screens and high-end to entry level chipset and RAM combos. The XA1 is the most humble of the new quartet, with a 5" HD display, octa-core MediaTek processor, and 3 GB RAM. Sony Xperia XZs: all the official images

Sony got on the stage today, and unveiled a big spring crop of phones, starting with the 4K display-ladden XZ Premium, moving on to its smaller XZs sidekick, and then to more midrange warriors. The new Xperia XZs comes at a very pocketable and palm-friendly size with a 5.2" 1080p display, but it's one pretty little monster, too, with a Snapdragon 820 chipset, 4 GB RAM, stereo speakers, waterproof certification, and Sony's new 19 MP sensor that does super slow-mo 960fps video...

Sony Xperia XZs price and release date

The XZs is an interesting hybrid, as it combines upper midrange specs with some high-end features, but, given that it's a Sony, expect the price to lean towards the latter side. Sony said that its new Xperia XZs will hit shelves in April, and will start you off at at $699. That's the pricing of the LG G6 or an eventual Galaxy S8, so we will see how Sony intends to battle these two juggernauts when we get the XZs here in the office for review...

Sony Xperia XZ Premium price and release date

If you have been waiting for that elusive Galaxy S8 with the rumored 4K display, you will probably be in for a disappointment, as Samsung will most likely use a "regular" Quad HD resolution on the phone's display, preventing you from obtaining a better virtual reality experience. Another phone maker, however, issued a phone with a 4K display out of the blue, and that one is, surprise, surprise - Sony again...

Xperia XZ Premium is official: 4K is back with a vengeance!

About 18 months ago, Sony shocked the tech world by releasing the first-ever smartphone with a 4K (that's 2160 x 3840 pixels) display. Naturally, it stirred some controversy, especially when it was revealed that the phone is only working in 4K when displaying pictures and movies in its native gallery apps. Some people were wondering "Do we really need that many pixels on a 5.5-inch phone screen, or is this just a gimmick to grab my attention?", while others were embracing the new tech, doused in appreciation for the kind of technological advancements this screen signifies.

Lenovo intros Tab 4 Android slates with stereo speakers and glass backs

Lenovo just lifted the veil over its new Tab 4 series Android tablets - the Tab 4 8 and Tab 4 10 - with two more premium versions of those denoted with a "Plus" in the name. LG G6 vs G5, G4: should I upgrade?

The LG G6 is out and it's definitely a drool-worthy piece of hardware. Amazing screen-to-body ratio, beautiful design, and a lot of time spent on finte-tuning its operation and performance, as per LG's own word. Surely, there are LG device owners out there right now, spending more time than one would consider reasonable staring at pictures of the new phone and then beaming over to their own G5. There's that burning question

LG G5 vs LG G6: first look

Well, LG's new flagship is here in all of its fullscreen glory. Well, to be fair, we haven't reached that futuristic point in time where all we will be holding is a display just yet, but the G6's bezels are impressively thin. But does that mean that you should be throwing the G5 out the window? And how well does the new handset perform next to the rather snappy 2016 flagship? Let's take a closer look!

RIP, Withings, all your smart scales and fitness bands will be rebranded as Nokia

When Nokia bought Withings for $191 million last summer, it acquired a robust digital health accessory business that spans the gamut of fitness bands to smart scales to app-connected thermometers or blood pressure meters. Withings makes some of the best and most popular products in this realm, so it was a perfect fit for Nokia's WellCare strategy that will likely address a market which will be booming over the coming years...

LG G6 vs G5: User interface differences, a visual comparison

As the story goes, every major Android smartphone manufacturer has their own user interface on top of Google's operating system to separate themselves from the pack. And with every big smartphone release, the UI is evolved further — features are added and visuals get a facelift. After all, we can't have software looks staying the same, while hardware design evolves further.

LG explains why it dislikes curved display panels, and why there isn't one on the G6

The biggest design trend in phones this year is going to involve manufacturers using massive display panels, while shrinking the bezels around them to almost nonexistence. LG is first out of the gate with exactly such a proposition: its 2017 flagship, the G6, is ready to roll, and guess what – it's rocking a stunning 5.7" screen in the body of a phone no bigger than last year's 5.3" G5!

LG says the G6 is very, very tough. Here's why

A smartphone, and especially a flagship-grade one, is an expensive gadget. One that we carry around with us throughout the day, on a trek, hike, or adventure, when out on a pubcrawl, or when hitting the gym. Basically, there are many, many chances for you to drop your handset every single day, and according to every law in Murphy's book, it usually hits the least desirable surfaces — concrete, metal, et cetera. Breaking your phone hurts, especially if it's long before you are eligible for an upgrade.

LG G6 vs LG V20: Can you teach an old dog new tricks?

Despite the rocky start of the year for LG because of the mostly lackluster G5, it finished 2016 on a high note thanks to the excellent LG V20. It was a big, manly phone, with two screens, three cameras, hi-fi audio, and all the bells and whistles you can expect from a high-end phablet. We hate to use that portmanteau word, but it just rolls off the tongue when you talk about the V20. And then there's the all-new G6, a device that is a meaningful evolution of the G5, putting forth features that are important for end-users. But are all the novelties enough to make the G6 the new top dog in LG's camp? There's only one way to provide an answer to that question - with a 1v1 hands-on comparison...

Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 price and release date

A pro tablet surfaces: the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 has quad speakers, S Pen, keyboard

The tablet market hasn't been going super-strong lately. It was a lucrative niche some years ago, but it was very quickly cornered by the growing smartphone screen sizes, and the shrinking of ultrabooks (very slim notebooks). So, a lot of developers have pulled away from building tabs, and others have minimized their portfolio and spread out their product refresh schedules, while continuing to poke at R&D to come up with a new breakthrough feature that would make tablets hip again.
