Samsung Galaxy S4: 10 exclusive or little-known features review
1. Super-sensitive touchscreen can be operated with gloves
We'd wager to bet it's the same technology found on the Nokia Lumia 920, supplied by Synaptics, and is a very handy feature, especially for the construction site, colder regions, or when you are on the ski lift and get a call or text - you can answer it or unlock the phone to read the message without taking your gloves off in the subzero temps.
2. First handset with Corning's Gorilla Glass 3
3. Mobeam tech: existing barcode scanners work with the Galaxy S4 directly
The implications for mobile commerce are potentially huge, as merchants don't have to install any additional equipment like with NFC, or any extra mobile sales solutions on the backend.
4. Barometer, hygrometer and thermometer sensors open to 3rd party apps
The barometer is also used for faster and more accurate GPS location readings, and 3rd party apps like pressureNET are starting to take advantage of such sensors. The app is a crowdsourced atmospheric pressure reader - data is pinned as markers on an embedded Google map, and graphed over time "to improve weather forecasting for everyone on Earth by dramatically increasing the availability of live data that describes the atmosphere."
5. Galaxy S4 supports blazing "5G" 802.11ac Wi-Fi
Not that there is an abundance of 802.11ac routers on sale yet, or places that spread the Internet love around with such speeds, but support for the "5G Wi-Fi" is important for the Wi-Fi Direct, S Beam and Group Play on the Galaxy S4, as it allows much faster swapping of files, music, videos and streaming between compatible devices than with the previous 802.11n standard.
6. MHL 2.0 support
8. SwiftKey comes standard
TripAdvisor Samsung Edition is what the app is called, and it sports a new interface with scrollable landmark photo strip, and a handy widget that can display activities to try around you, plus you can flip through them without even firing up the application - a feature that is S4 exclusive for now.
10. Safety Assistance option

only thing is i like is wifi speed.....!!!
61. chocolaking (Posts: 428; Member since: 22 May 2012)
I agree with you. Only the Wifi seem to be eye catchy.
but. it's useless at this point really!
"Not that there is an abundance of 802.11ac routers on sale yet" nor ppl would know that it needs at least a shield Cat 6 cable to hook up the router.
65. Pedro0x (Posts: 271; Member since: 19 Oct 2012)
Yes exactly, no one has an ac router at home or anywhere so I would take this mostly for marketing.
And I believe that any Snapdragon 600 or even apq8064 supports ac wifi.
72. akki20892 (Posts: 3241; Member since: 04 Feb 2013)
yep everyone have N routers so. and in future will get ac but all phones will have ac wifi speed on their phones .

The weather sensors are great and can give you improved real time weather updates or better weather widgets. The super sensitive touch screen is also a plus.
Once the Verizon One variant comes out I can't wait to play with both phones.
12. BillyG (Posts: 305; Member since: 24 Sep 2012)
its a clear choice. sofar no other device can beat SGS4.
14. Lauticol (Posts: 179; Member since: 25 Jun 2011)
It's up to your decision, I'm in the same but I find the dual stereo front speakers and Sense 5 more appealing than all the sensors you'd probably never use or super sensitive screen that a lot of people turn off in the Lumia 920 because it gets a little annoying
27. sniper1087 (Posts: 331; Member since: 31 Dec 2011)
i agree the Screen sensitivity was a problem when you tried to clean it from fingerprints if you are watching a video it will get out of it.

The S4 is a well made phone. That is, in terms of design and physical quality. But as far as function and features,
The HTC ONE is clearly the better choice of the two. Why let an plastic body with tones of gimmick features, that will most likely not to be used realisticly, be the determining factor in choice?
94. heyhi (Posts: 122; Member since: 19 Feb 2013)
im sorry man, but Android world is all about gimmicks and features and thats what brought me to android instead of iOS. Take HTC and the weather clock for example, when i first saw it i said wow, and then a lot of companies did the same. If u ask me, this is a gimmick feature. Live wallpapers and some widgets are gimmicky, but is nice to have them.
Blink Feed is a great feature or a gimmicky? what else One has? the speakers I dont use it and most people I see, dont go listen to music without their headphones. If i listen without them, it would be elsewhere, not on my phone. If you think the build quality of the One is so great, you should watch the droptest between the iphone and the One. Some features you call gimmicky on S4, i call smart features.
What phone nowadays are revolutionary? its all about gimmicks or features that becomes afterwards standard on other phones.

duuuude whaaat??? what features?????!??!?!?!?!?!?!?! are we looking at the same phone there arent any features they copy windows phone and then a camera feature was unique other than beats you have literally no argument at all. get your one that will be just as awesome as the one x that was better than the s3 .... oh wait ... it wasnt
16. maryaaadil (Posts: 146; Member since: 07 Apr 2012)
if u can get over the camera on htc
its all urs.

The HTC One is a well made phone. That is, in terms of design and physical quality. But as far as function and features, the GS4 is clearly the better choice of the two. Why let an aluminum body, that will most likely be covered by a plastic/rubber case, be the determining factor in choice?

This "gimmick (labelled by hater)" phone will once again put HTC on shame.
22. yudi.nemesis (Posts: 1127; Member since: 14 Mar 2013)
this feature is gimmick because its not the next big thing when lumia 920 have use it before follow by xperia sola and now S4,
even sony new phone xperia SP have this feature
26. kclgphilsbsa (Posts: 762; Member since: 21 Jan 2013)
what feature?? coz there r many of them
28. kobainez (Posts: 299; Member since: 13 Apr 2012)
Glove feature. IDK why samdung fans thumbed down nemesis comment. He just telling us the truth. Butthurt samdung fans can't handle the truth?
35. kclgphilsbsa (Posts: 762; Member since: 21 Jan 2013)
get over it.. duhh?
in fact nemesis replied something not particular,, the article mentions 10 features, silencerzzz "gimmick labeled phone" while nemesis said "gimmick feature" so just one feature from him,,
and nemesis comment has sides of true and wrong statemnts
true: Nokia introduced it first
in d first place, it's not a gimmick, glove feat is very useful, but this is a gimmick for close-minded people and true fanboys
the way nemesis said it, he implies that it is a gimmick bcoz its not d next big thing (duhhh, the sense?);; bcoz lumia used it first (duhh, the sense?)
39. yudi.nemesis (Posts: 1127; Member since: 14 Mar 2013)
its gimmick because it have many copycat feature that
1. Nokia glove mode
2. sony floating touch technology just check this video before saying samsung have new ideas or innovation
3. LG dual recording mode
you want more????
S4 is the best smartphone rigth now but it doesn't much have new ideas or innovations
47. kclgphilsbsa (Posts: 762; Member since: 21 Jan 2013)
please dont use GIMMICK just because samsung adopted those tech.. "gimmick" and "legal adopting" is diffrnt from one another,
copying?? dont u know that patents can be legally used by another?,, as long as there are legal licensng agreements, the word copying is out!, thus please give me ur evidence that samsung copied it and that samsung is BEING SUED for it,,.. and give me evidence that the other manufacturers uve mentioned invented those features.."please legal evidence" not those videos,, those features myt be already existing in the computer and mobile technology before LG SONY AND NOKIA adopted those features, if NOT> THEY ARE NOW SUING SAMSUNG.. get the sense??
another fact, dont u dare insult the company that has the largest number of mobile patents., u never know, ur company is also legally using these patents..
55. yudi.nemesis (Posts: 1127; Member since: 14 Mar 2013)
i am use Gimmick and copying because both you or samsung mobile chief jk shin said about innovation word theres no innovation if samsung use the same ideas and method ( i know not all the feature is from another company )
check !!! developer.sonymobile.com/knowledge-base/technologies/floating-touch/
the technology is developed by sony mobile and Cypress Technologies
109. Lboogey6 (Posts: 264; Member since: 31 Jan 2012)
dude tell us who has been innovative then cause right about now every phone out has just about the same features.
63. chocolaking (Posts: 428; Member since: 22 May 2012)
this article is to introduce the NEXT BIG COPYCAT PHONE!
68. Nephylim (Posts: 131; Member since: 04 Apr 2013)
Then... i can have all these features in one phone !!!!
Galaxy s4 of curse !!!
69. yudi.nemesis (Posts: 1127; Member since: 14 Mar 2013)
yes until this day S4 is the best phone that money can buy, in terms of feature and processor
i just doesn't agree when someone say S4 is full of samsung innovation,
81. kclgphilsbsa (Posts: 762; Member since: 21 Jan 2013)
in d first place, u trolled first coz no one here actually mentioned that samsung is full of innovation :) read ur comments.
still there are software feats in s4 which isnt yet available in other smartphones, dont just look to features already implemented by others.
87. yudi.nemesis (Posts: 1127; Member since: 14 Mar 2013)
do you remmeber your comment about airview and premium,
''The airview without s-pen is my best
feature.. I really miss the hover function
when visiting websites that require mouse
''Yeah xperia Sola has that first, but what it
offers? almost nothing,, and that's
innovation made by samsung, expanding
new ideas from something not big before..''
Xperia sola is the first, it offers everything that S4 can do with airview, the innovation made by sony, and samsung not expanding new ideas
for closed minded fanboy like you everything in samsung device is samsung innovation
you trolled first by saying ''innovation'' word
and more than 5 feature in S4 is not samsung new ideas or innovation
with the help from developer Xperia SP can have S4 features
why Xperia SP?? because its the only smartphone that have screen technology like sola + front facing camera
101. kclgphilsbsa (Posts: 762; Member since: 21 Jan 2013)
the first comment uve quoted isnt mine :)
,, the ics update of xperia sola just added gloves feature..
the whole UI interface was developed by XDAmember, not Sony,.
but theres more that hovering tsu tsu can offer in gs4, hovering and will display signifcant info abt what u hovered upon (like images/albums, video exploring, displaying emails, etc etc), and those cant be done in ur xperia sola, it can just display down web menus. :)
105. yudi.nemesis (Posts: 1127; Member since: 14 Mar 2013)
''the problem is when you say xperia sola offer nothing and thats innovation made by samsung''
haha i give you prove and you talking about b**l s***t
almost all the feature in samsung android device its developed by developer ( all the android company need developer ) thats the reason why developer world exist, sony show them floating touch tech to developer so they can upgrade or add some more features
Android 2.3 floating touch could only be used with
browser, but an upgrade to Android 4.0.4 has brought
the ability to use this feature for entire interface (so called "glove mode" ) its NOT ONLY GLOVE MODE
the basic ideas is you can interact or controlled the entire user interface by hovering in combination with
And all the info stuff you said it have same idea with sola ( how you can interact the user interface with hovering ) its not different with displaying web menu
S4 using the same ideas/methods with sola,
FYI glove mode in sola it not the same with lumia glove mode but the it have same ideas
Xperia sola : The software could also distinguish between a
"normal" touch, and a gloved touch, meaning normal
control of the device was possible without disabling
Glove Mode on the device.
Lumia 920 : Synaptics says it has distinct profiles for glove, skin and fingernail applications, and switches between
them as necessary, so perhaps pocket dialing won't be
such an issue.
31. Silencerzzz (Posts: 21; Member since: 29 Mar 2013)
As you labelled it "gimmick", how well did those inventor companies optimize their advantage?? Samsung may not be the first to use this technology but they did it right. There will be more company like Flipboard, Facebook will take advantage their technology in the future.
Make it First and make it right is completely different things.
Now tell me how can developer and 3rd party help HTC to improve popularity and superiority?
74. HDShatter (Posts: 1021; Member since: 17 Jan 2013)
The 1 reason I will get this phone (international) = That Exynos 5 is the fastest thing out there right now. No gimmicks the s4 (international) owns everything else just because the processor/gpu used in it.
76. yudi.nemesis (Posts: 1127; Member since: 14 Mar 2013)
ahh.. Exynos 5 octa the biggest gimmick of samsung
it design for power efficient not speed or power
Antutu benchmark result on internet:
Exynos 5 octa clocked 1.8 GHz scored 27000+
Tegra 4 with max clock speed 1.9 GHz scored 36000+
Tegra have powerful Gpu
Exynos 5 octa is only over 10% more fast than S600 with some optimization S600 will be fast enough to compete with Exynos 5 octa
S600 also have good GPU and excellent battery life
so if you want the best CPU and GPU just wait S800 ora Tegra 4 device
89. kclgphilsbsa (Posts: 762; Member since: 21 Jan 2013)
u probably dont know anything abt LB archtcture..
"it design for power efficient not speed or power"
at least theyr addressing power efficiency and that was the so needed advances for the power-hungry android platform
92. yudi.nemesis (Posts: 1127; Member since: 14 Mar 2013)
before you saying i doesn't know anything about technology and
now ''u probably dont know anything abt LB archtcture''
its call ARM big.LITTLE™
you are really dumb you know please read your friends comment before answer my comment
hdshatter need the fastest thing out there, not power efficiency and because Exynos 5 is still not out yet so S600 is still the fastest, and S600 have excellent power efficiency, many samsung fans think 8 core in Exynos 5 octa will be the fastest be the reality from benchmark result 5 octa only over 10% faster than S600
both S800 or Tegra 4 is faster than Exynos and they claims it will be power efficient
102. kclgphilsbsa (Posts: 762; Member since: 21 Jan 2013)
ok ...BL arch...., typo :) hot?
yah hdshatter is wrong coz tegra4 cud be d fastest ryt now,
but my POINT IS u are totally fanboyilly wrong to say the exynos is a gimmick..the b.L arch implies a genius implementation and structure..
as far as wer handling and comparing devices RYT NOW, gs4 w/ the exynos is d fastest ryt now coz the market still dont have s800 and tegra4 devices.. :)
106. yudi.nemesis (Posts: 1127; Member since: 14 Mar 2013)
why don't you read my comment correctly,
many people only see 8 core so thats why they think it will be blazing fast and because of that i am using ''gimmick'' word
most of them doesn't know that big.LITTLE aim to strike the best balance between performance and power consumption.
Ok now please tell me Where i can buy S4 Exynos version????
110. Nephylim (Posts: 131; Member since: 04 Apr 2013)
Please change your user name to "The gimmick guy" all your comments has the "gimmick" word. Gimmick here ...gimmick there.

haha clueless samsung fanboy can't accept the reality and give you thumb down

HTC One has DDR2 according to Anandtech mini review. When it comes to the hardware components, I think it would be safe to rely on Anandtech.

You could keep reading the topic in XDA you posted, they are not sure, a lot of sites are saying it DOES HAVE DDR3.
