Lucky unlocked Samsung Galaxy S5 owner gets Android 6.0.1 on his phone?
Last week, Samsung said that it was looking for owners of the unlocked Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 edge in the U.K. and South Korea, who want to take part in beta tests of the Android 6.0 update. Whether what happened next is related to the beta test is not known, but it appears that a lucky Samsung Galaxy S5 owner ended up with Android 6.0.1 on his phone.

The security patch date on the update reads 1, January 2016 which is a strong sign that the update is not final, or not official. The December security update was just recently sent out. Android 6.0 contains battery management feature Doze, which puts an inactive phone into a deep sleep; this expands the standby time and battery life. App permissions are improved, allowing users to allow or deny them on a feature-by-feature basis. Google Now on Tap provides search results based on content found on the screen. With Android 6.0.1, additional features include new emoji and bug fixes, which help get rid of small issues.

A large selection of screenshots from the mistakenly updated phone are available for you to peruse in the slideshow below. In addition, a video was also posted on social media showing the Android 6.0.1 update running on the Galaxy S5. We've embedded it below for your viewing pleasure.

If you own an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S5, do not take this to mean that your phone is on the verge of receiving Marshmallow. This was obviously a fluke, and as we pointed out, might not even be the official version of the update.
