Analyst spells out the new Nexus 7 tablet specs: WUXGA display, quad-core Snapdragon, same sub-$200 tag

Waiting for Google's I/O conference next week? So are we, as the company might do a trick, pulling out an updated Nexus tablet out of the proverbial hat.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo issued a note to clients the expected specs, which mostly jibe with what we've heard so far, at least regarding the higher-res screen.

A decent quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro is to be running the show, and since high-res screens are apparently going to be all the rage with smaller tablets this year, judging from the rumors about the iPad mini 2, the new Nexus 7 is going to sport one, and with WUXGA pixel count at that.

As for the all-important price question, the next Google-Asus slate is expected to retain its enticing threshold below the $200 mark, which is certainly one of the main points for its appeal. The analyst believes that Google might be actually subsidizing the Asus production to the tune of $5 to $10 a pop at this price point, but since this strategy for invading the tablet market with Android slates clearly worked last year, this seems to be a small price to pay.
