UPDATE:Verizon has reached out to us after resolving the issue that caused many subscribers to lose the ability to make or take phone calls. If you are still having an i0ssue, the carrier suggests restarting your phone. "Our engineers have resolved the issue that affected voice services for some wireless customers this afternoon. We know how much you rely on us, and we’re sorry for the inconvenience. If you are still having any trouble with your service, please try restarting your device."
The original story follows:
There is one good thing about being a Verizon subscriber. When the service goes out, I know about it before subscribers to other wireless providers and can go straight to work on writing about it. For example, during the mega-outage from last January when Verizon customers had no wireless service for 10 hours, my wife was on a call with our son when the connection went down, leading me straight to Downdetector where the outage was confirmed.
Something similar happened today when once again my wife was on her phone with our son when once again the connection was lost and we could not call him back. We called our daughter and each other to no avail. This time, though, Downdetector showed that there was no issue. Then, all of a sudden, the number of complaints to Downdetector from Verizon subscribers soared to 10,820 from 44 just an hour and a half earlier.

A whopping 80% of complaints were from Verizon customers complaining about the loss of cellular connectivity on their phones, while 10% were upset because their 5G Home Internet service went down. Six percent wrote to Downdetector about their inability to connect to the mobile internet via Verizon.
