While the Pixel 11 series is less than a month away from officially being unveiled in front of the world, we still have many months left before the release of the budget variant of the lineup, the Pixel 11a. However, the phone is surely under development as clues related to it have started to emerge. Just yesterday, we reported that the device has been assigned "Formosan" as its internal code name, and now a reliable tipster has revealed all the major specifications of the phone.
All the leaked details of the Pixel 11a
Mystic Leaks, a trusted tipster who has a history of sharing accurate information about Pixel devices and their features before their official release, has shared some key details about the upcoming Pixel 11a. According to the tipster, the smartphone would have a 6.3-inch 1080p display that would offer a brightness of 2,250 nits HDR and 3,350 nits peak. It's a small jump from the numbers of the Pixel 10a that supports 2,000 nits HDR and 3,000 nits peak.

It could be the same 8GB RAM this time as well. For the battery, they mentioned that it could be "a minimal capacity of 4,870 mAh." The use of the term "minimal" is making me believe that there's actually room for a bigger battery.
The possibility of this happening seems high because the Pixel 10a features a 5100 mAh battery, so Google would try to at least match this number, if not exceed it, in the upcoming phone. The phone would reportedly be powered by the Tensor G6 SoC, contain the same Titan M3 security chip that is reported to be a part of the Pixel 11 as well, and also pack the MediaTek M90 modem.

The tipster has also shared the four color options, which are black, green, purple, and silver. Lastly, the device is said to feature a new front camera. Although the details about it haven't been revealed, it's reportedly been given the codename "dokkaebi."
That's really impressive specs for a mid-range phone

One of our biggest concerns with the Pixel 10a that launched earlier this year is that it looks very similar to the Pixel 9a in almost all departments. Most importantly, it's using the same Tensor G4 4nm processor that is available in last year's A model, whereas the Pixel 10 lineup features the latest Tensor G5 chip.
I was hoping that Google would pack the Tensor G5 in the Pixel 11a, going with the usual practice of smartphone makers adding their last year's flagship chip in this year's budget model. However, if Mystic Leaks' claims turn out to be true, the Pixel 11a could get a big performance boost because of the Tensor G6.

I think it wouldn't be the same chip that the company is going to add in its flagship variants. Most likely it could be a toned-down version of Google's latest flagship processor. Furthermore, if the Pixel 11a indeed uses the same Titan M3 chip as the Pixel 11, then it would give a clear indication that Google is not differentiating between its budget and flagship products when it comes to security.

There's big news for the Pixel 11 lineup as well
Complaint about poor performance of Pixel phones in low light condition. | Image by Reddit
I have been using the Pixel 10 for several months now, and one of my biggest concerns with it is that its face unlock feature doesn't work properly in low lighting conditions. The reason behind this is that unlike iPhones, Pixel devices don't use an infrared projector and an infrared camera to scan your face in 3D. Many users have complained about it on different platforms, including Reddit and Google's own Community forum.
It was reported a while ago that the company is working on a project called Toscana that will address all these concerns. It seems we would get to see the outcome of the project very soon, as Mystic Leak claims that the face unlock in Pixel 11 phones would be faster, more secure, and more accurate in low light.
The Pixel 11a is shaping up to be a strong mid-range contender
While it's still early, I strongly think that the Pixel 11a, which could be released sometime in March next year, would give strong competition to other mid-range devices across different brands. Most users are already impressed by the overall performance of the Pixel 10a, but with the latest processor, a brighter screen, the latest security features, and hopefully a faster face unlock mechanism, the Pixel 11a will also win the hearts of Pixel users.
