Okay Pixel Nation, Google has started disseminating invitations to the unveiling of its Pixel 11 series and Pixel Watch 5 models. Circle August 12 on your calendar and set it on your phone, which is eight days earlier than the August 20 date when Google unveiled the Pixel 10 line last year. However, the festivities will take place starting at 6 PM EDT/3 PM PDT, much later in the day than most other phone unveilings.
The Pixel 11 series will be unveiled in the Big Apple for the second consecutive year
The event will take place in New York City for the second consecutive year. Hopefully that won't mean the return of Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon. The latter might believe that he knows about tech, but some of the chatter between the late night host and Google's SVP of Platforms and Devices, Rick Osterloh, was cringe-inducing.
Which Pixel 11 model will you buy?
AI stole the show last year, and figures to do so this year. The big new feature, the Magic Cue, was something of a disappointment. While Osterloh said that the point of the feature was to make the Pixel 10 line proactive instead of reactive, 65% of Pixel owners didn't notice the feature doing anything.
The Magic Cue was the star of the show last year
The typical example used to extol the brilliance of the Magic Cue revolved around a call to an airline to change your reservation. As soon as the phone app places the call, a smart card appears on your screen with your flight number, booking reference code, and itinerary details. Instead of having to look through several emails to find this information, the Pixel will have it on the screen, right at your fingertips when you need it the most.

Since the Magic Cue ghosted Pixel 10 owners, Google hopes that a system-level redesign and more app integration will make the Magic Cue work like it is supposed to. A picture of the official invitation to the event shows a gold-framed Pixel and the invite calls August 12 "the night the next generation of Pixel arrives."
For the first time, the Pixel will be powered by a 2nm Tensor AP
The Tensor G6 application processor (AP) will be produced by TSMC using its 2nm process node. Not only will the Pixel 11 series be the first to sport 2nm APs (beating out Apple by a few weeks in the process), it will be the first Pixel series to sport a chip using the Gate-All-Around (GAA) transistor architecture. With GAA, the gate covers the channel on all four sides, reducing current leakage and improving the performance of the chip.
GAA also increases the drive current allowing the transistors to change their state from "on" to "off" and vice versa faster. This results in faster clock speeds improving the performance of the chip.
We expect to see Google unveil the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and the Pixel 11 Pro Fold. With the memory chip shortage, Google is looking to keep prices down by lowering the amount of RAM on the base Pixel 11 series from 12GB to 8GB.
The Pixel 11 Pro could have an entry-level model with 12GB of RAM instead of the 16GB found on the Pixel 10 Pro line. Still, Google is expected to offer a higher priced configuration of the Pixel 11 Pro and the Pixel 11 Pro XL with more storage and 16GB of RAM.
The Pixel Glow could be the big Pixel feature during this year's event
The Pixel 11 series is expected to have a new messaging notification feature called Pixel Glow. This feature activates an array of LED lights in eight different colors around the back of the phone. When a Pixel 11 user has his phone face down on a desk or table and receives a message, he will see a different color and pulse pattern for the Pixel Glow depending on the reason for the notification and the person who sent the message.
Users will reportedly be able to assign one of eight different colors to different contacts. Certain colors can also be assigned to different app types. One color could represent messages related to work, while another color could indicate that you missed a phone call.
Additionally, a certain Pixel Glow pulse pattern could indicate that Gemini is listening to or recording audio. A critically low battery could result n a pulsing red Pixel Glow and a solid green light could indicate a fully charged battery.
We should know more on August 12, so circle the date now.
