The iPhone Duo or the Galaxy Z Fold 8? That is the question. One is lighter, the other has that novelty feel attached to it. One is Android, the other is iOS.

Yet, you seem to have made up your mind and Samsung's champion is what you've chosen.

The votes are in

Back on the iPhone Duo's premiere day, I asked you, "Which wide foldable do you like the best?"

And here are the results of that poll:

  • Galaxy Z Fold 8 – 40.13%
  • iPhone Duo – 29.16%
  • Pura X Max – 1.68%
  • Xiaomi 18 Fold – 5.29%
  • I prefer narrow and tall foldables – 9.29%
  • I don't like foldables – 14.45%

OK, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 didn't secure half of the total vote, but there are numerous options to pick from. In that context, getting 40% of the vote is still pretty respectable.

What amazes me the most is that this poll was seeded on September 9, when the hype about Apple's first-ever foldable iPhone was at its highest. As it turns out, the iPhone Duo can't triumph even on its premiere day. It didn't even gather 30% of the total vote.

But why?

Maybe Apple fans were expecting something different from the iPhone Duo and got disappointed. Or, which is more likely, Samsung is enjoying too strong of a momentum to be taken down just like that.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8

  • Display 7.6-inch . 1848x2448px
  • Camera Dual camera
  • Battery 4800 mAh

  • Hardware Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy

Apple iPhone Duo

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 has been breaking records in terms of preorders and sales across the world. And the fact that the Z Fold 8 is already out there—while we'll have to wait until October for the iPhone Duo—helps a lot.

Apple has bragged shamelessly about the iPhone Duo, but people are wise enough to wait for the actual in-depth reviews to drop. Buying a $2,000 first-generation gadget on the company's word is not something everyone has the guts to do.

"Traditional" foldables aren't dead

Other wide foldables like Huawei's Pura X Max and the Xiaomi 18 Fold can't really keep up with Samsung's and Apple's devices in terms of popularity in our poll, but there's something else worth discussing.

The "I prefer narrow and tall foldables" crowd secured almost 10% of the total vote. That's a bit more than what I expected, since, again, September 9 was all about that wider-than-taller form factor. As it turns out, "traditional" foldables—like the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra or the Oppo Find N6—aren't dead yet.

The "I don't like foldables" voters account for almost 15%. Gotta respect your honesty! Now, if the iPhone Duo was $1,000—and not $2,000—would you give it a chance? Let me know in the comments below.
