RedMagic 12 Pro is here to challenge the Motorola Signature 27 with its Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 SoC.

RedMagic launched its latest flagship, the RedMagic 12 Pro Plus, last month in China. The device has now launched globally as well, but with a slightly different name, the RedMagic 12 Pro.

Most powerful gaming phone from RedMagic

The biggest highlight of the RedMagic 12 Pro is its Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor. It is the same SoC that is going to power the upcoming Motorola Signature 27. The device is available in three storage options: 12 GB RAM + 256 GB storage, 16 GB RAM + 512 GB storage, and 16 GB RAM + 1 TB storage.

You get a 6.85-inch 1.5K OLED display that supports a refresh rate of 185 Hz. For comparison, the Signature 27 is reported to offer a 120 Hz refresh rate panel. The phone also packs a massive 8400 mAh cell, which is comparatively much bigger than the 6,000 mAh battery the Motorola flagship is reported to get.

Notably, the global version of the RedMagic 12 Pro comes with 80 W wired charging support, whereas its Chinese variant supports 120 W charging. The mobile features certain capabilities dedicated to gaming as well, which include an RGB cooling system, TurboFan 5.0, and a RedCore R5 gaming chip that helps improve the frame rate in games.

RedMagic apparently has an upper hand in pricing as well

The base variant of the RedMagic 12 Pro is available at $949. This is surely a big jump from its predecessor, the RedMagic 11 Pro, which costs $699, but even after the price hike, the phone is apparently cheaper than the expected cost of the Signature 27. For reference, the device is rumored to cost $1,600.

All that said, the RedMagic flagship will go on sale in the United States on November 18th.

RedMagic fans appear not to like the price

One of the biggest selling points of RedMagic was that its phones cost less compared to other flagship devices. But that doesn't appear to be the case this year, as the latest device has seen a price increase of $250 over the last year's model. As expected, fans are disappointed by this move.

One user commented under a relevant Reddit post that if they're spending this much money, they would better get a Samsung S series phone. Another user mentioned that they didn't like the approach of offering less RAM. For reference, the RedMagic 11 Pro is also available in a 24 GB RAM option.

Motorola Signature 27 has its own advantages

The RedMagic 12 Pro seems better than the upcoming Signature 27 on paper in certain areas, but the Motorola phone has its own set of advantages as well. It will feature Tandem OLED, which will allow the device to offer great brightness and contrast. The phone also supports up to 12,000 needs of peak brightness, whereas the RedMagic mobile only offers 5,000 nits of peak brightness.

Motorola appears to have an upper hand in the camera department as well with its 50 MP main, 200 MP telephoto, and 50 MP ultra-wide triple camera setup at the back. In comparison, the 12 Pro features only a dual camera setup at the back with both the main and ultra-wide shooter being 50 MP. Furthermore, the device has reportedly been promised only 2 years of major OS updates, whereas the Signature 27 has been promised 7 years.

There are other advantages of getting the Motorola phone as well, like the GrapheneOS support. Look, I am not concluding which of these devices are better, as both have their own pros and cons, and Signature 27 is yet to be released. However, since both the phones are seeing a global launch, the end user would ultimately have new choices to consider instead of simply relying on iPhones, Galaxies, and Pixels.
