Nothing's big plans for 2027 face a tough challenge

Nothing’s co-founder hints at a serious phone lineup expansion.

A few weeks back, a bombshell leak suggested Nothing may be exiting a lot of markets. Those were dismissed quickly after becoming public, and some industry insiders even said the company might be exploring new categories.

But it appears the smartphone game is still very much on the table.

Six Nothing phones next year?

In an exclusive interview with Times Now, co-founder Akis Evangelidis revealed that Nothing has big ambitions for 2027 despite the ongoing component pricing crisis.

The brand reportedly prepares for a significant expansion in the Indian market while strengthening its presence in the US. But the more interesting part of the interview sheds some light on Nothing's phone plans.

As Nothing's co-founder puts it, the company wants to offer a wider range of devices in 2027. This year, it launched the Nothing Phone (4a), (4a) Pro, and recently, the Phone (4b). It reportedly plans to expand that twice.

Yep, it seems we may be looking at six Nothing phones next year.

The ambition is there

But Nothing may not stop at phones. X leaker Yabhishek Yadav recently claimed a Nothing smartwatch is reportedly in the works. Now, Akis didn't mention a smartwatch in the interview, though he did say the company is focusing on expanding its product portfolio right now.

The co-founder also emphasized there are still product launches to look forward to in Q3 2026, though he didn't specify what devices the company plans to unveil.

Ambition is one thing, but gaining market share is a whole other story. Counterpoint Research's data shows Nothing is still far from challenging the industry's biggest players, with Apple, Samsung, Vivo, Xiaomi, and Oppo dominating the global market.

Expanding into new categories may help the company grow its ecosystem, but it still has a long way to go before it can compete with the big players.

Nothing wants more

To me, Nothing's plans seem a little too bold. The company wants to double its smartphone lineup next year while expanding into more product categories, all at a time when rising component costs continue to put pressure on manufacturers.

Still, the strategy makes perfect sense. By introducing more devices across different price points and categories, Nothing is trying to build an ecosystem with something for everyone.

The biggest challenge, however, won't be launching more products. It'll most likely be convincing more users to switch from Apple, Samsung, or another key player.

Will it work?

The market is becoming increasingly difficult, especially for smaller brands like Nothing. While its unique design choices are a big part of what makes Nothing devices exciting, I doubt that alone will be enough to help the company stand out in such a crowded market.

To succeed, Nothing will have to prove it can innovate just as well as it can design.
